My OWN Protege5 soon, Help me choose

5 speed FTW. I have the sunroof and leather seats. Sunroof is nice, but i always forget its there and going through the twisties the leather seats become a slip and slide. I have never driven the auto, but I would think you could squeeze more juice out of the manual (comes in handy powering out of corners or going up curvy hills). Yes, I live in east TN. I don't think they make a straight road here....Haha!

I hear you on the sunroof deal. I always wanted a sunroof tell I had one in the p5 and the fact is I never used the damn thing! Trust me I know what you mean about the leather seats being a slip in slide! I slide around in my truck all the time and I don't really flog it around turns either. leather bench seat ftl!

Pro5 seats hold me pretty good. I've never been a passenger though through corners, so, i can't say the same for anyone else in the car.

Dude, my sunroof is ALWAYS open and windows are always down

Leather isn't too bad but, i don't have twisties to run

The auto/leather didn't do too bad in the mountains of WV though for me!!

is your sunroof tinted? Mine wasn't on my p5 and I couldn't get a damn shop to touch it

Nope, it's stock. Its always open, and if it isn't, the shade is closed, so, tint is pointless for me

well, I do have bike racks, so the noise is freakin loud with my sunroof open. I also like to hear my boom boom without wind noise...LOL!!!

I am lowered on tokicos and espilers too, so usually when i'm flying around curves the p5 goes one way and my body goes the other way (see slip and slide)...haha!

sometimes i feel like a dog in the back of a p/u truck!

bingo, I dont have time for that reading crap...lol

too bad, we're selling our P5 but you're a little far lol

Hey evilmonkey you are not that far you are from Florida (According to your profile.)(godown)
I can fly there and come back, luv the beach, and maybe I'll pick up sum Mamacitas (boobs) with my new ride (naughty) ( kidding ...I'm engaged )(angel)

Thanks for all your answers keep them coming please! (hear ya)
as far as it goes.... I'll test drive both of them but... I'm already leaning towards getting the manual one.... Monday's a BIG DAY folks.
I'm alreaady shopping for the future mods on the car !

Manual transmissions are more reliable, better acceleration and much more fun.

Hey Hello Everybody! How Y'all Doing !?

I'm soo happy the forum exist! I've looking around for 2 months and i'm pleased with the fact that I can relate to so many MP5 fans.
I've had a MP5 since it came out in 2002... My parents bought the car for my older brother and I as a family car. It was an automatic without tiptronic nor sunroof one but "So nice looking and fun".
I always wanted a manual car but as the younger brother with a learner driving license, at the time we received it, my opinion didn't count back then. I enjoyed the car as a second occasional driver (groceries, chores, and occasional nights out) for around 2years then I moved (from Monreal Canada) in Atlanta, GA.
Many many years later, after a "91 5spd Honda Accord" with sunroof, and a automatic 93 Corrolla, I'm about to have MY OWN but used MP5. Yeah! I'm coming back to it!
But now I'm torn between :
- a 2003 5spd with 150K miles without sunroof
- and a 2002.5 semi-auto (tiptronic) 130K miles with sunroof and leather interior

for around the same price , same mileage... I would've love to go for the more luxurous one .. since that I miss having a sunroof and the tiptronic is a compromise for the manual transmission.
However, I'd like to know from others' opinions...
Can the MP5's auto transmission hold longer or if i should be mature about it and go for a stick?
I take good care of cars but I work part time as a restaurant delivery driver with my 93 corolla. My new protege5 will help for other stuff until my corolla dies.
So Can I take the risk of an auto tranny? ( since tha the other in Montreal is still working fine and ... I WANT LEATHER SEATS AND A SUNROOF)
or it's shouldn't be that important and i still get a Hot 5spd car that i always wanted.

Anyone knows somebody selling a 5spd manual MP5 with sunroof?
or is it doable to change the roof on a MP5!?
May seems stupid but Me and MP5 have a somewhat long and soapy story between us.

5 speed...it's a dying breed, but the clutch-shift action is monumentally more satisfying (IMO) than a simple flick of the wrist.

A good teacher helps, don't try to learn on your own, you'll mess that clutch up!

I don't know if i should say this but, my wife taught me how to drive a manual(wife that can shift gears FTMFW!).....lol. I didn't realize what i was missing. I was 25 yrs old when i learned to drive stick. I know, I know flame on...haha! I can honestly say that i don't think i will ever go back to auto. With a manual you feel like you have total control of your vehicle. It actually makes driving......well, driving. There is nothing like cruising along and slowing down for a sharp curve, downshifting, then puching the gas to pull you through a corner. I always liked cool cars but learning to drive stick got me into loving to drive cars. I would highly recommend manual. You WILL learn how to drive it and you WON'T regret it. Take it from someone who couldn't drive one for 25yrs....haha!

also, upgrading seats, sunroof, etc. is alot easier than an auto to manual swap (which you WILL want to do if you go auto...haha!)

Let Me NOW DO MY HAPPY DANCE !

Finally I got The Manual one. The Semi-auto was a great car but, the previous owner mod the car already but i think he/she was from the kind who add stuff for performance and speed just for posing ; the exterior and interioir were looking good but the motor and especially the aftermarket struts.... were somewhat shaky.
Anyway got my 2003 Manual MP5 now, without leather seats, nor sunroof But SO Proud of it... Love it !
I drove it Back from North Carolina To Atlanta. Piece of cake!
