Protege5 2002
Hello everyone! So long story short....I moved here from Germany and needed a cheap car. I sold my BMW in Germany and shopping for cars that could haul my drums and family found the Protege5 as a great choice. Found one here in the Raleigh area. Had some nicer aftermarket wheels on it, was a 5 speed and body was in pretty good shape. I did some body work myself (pulled the fender and beat some dents out). I pick it up from my painter today. I can do paint work but I don't have a booth or anything here so I found someone who does great work locally. I will post my high quality pics from my picassa account later.

2002 P5 - $3400
Clutch - $1000
Misc Maint. -$200
A/C Recharge - $120
Pulled off roof rack - $0

PPG Deltron Candy Apple Red - $100 (found on ebay) Normally about $1k for a gallon
PPG Omni Primer, PPG Deltron Clear, (misc. hardeners and reducers) - $527

Paint Jobber - $750

Total - $6,097

Welcome Stateside and to the forum! Not a bad investment at all. Paint looks great, can't wait to see some high res pics.

Forgot to mention a little interior work I will be doing. Since I have the headliner out I am going to work on that. Its actually in great condition just needs to be cleaned up and put back in. I had to pull it out to remove my roof rack.

Also this is my second Mazda; I still have my '00 626 that my wife drives now.

Sorry I have been busy but here are some high resolution pictures:

The clutch price was for labor, the parts, two motor mounts and they flushed my HVAC system. So it was not just the clutch.

The wheels are 17" and came with the car. I am going to do something with the wheels just don't have much time; family, band, work. I was thinking painting the hub and spokes black and the lip the same red as the car. If you look close you will notice I also removed the side skirts. I don't care much for the factory ones and am shopping some aftermarkets that are a little more stream lined looking.

I was thinking these for side skirts:

I believe that the side skirt for the regular Protege of the same model year should fit. Something clean and not ricer looking.

Off topic if anyone comes out to a show here is my tour / gigging work horse:

Welcome back!
Looks great!
How/where did you find the strips to cover the holes from the roof rack? I'd lose the rack on mine today,if I could locate the proper parts.

Do you still have the roof rack and would you be interested in selling it? I have an 03 with a sunroof, do you know if I'd be able to install a roof rack from an 02 without a sunroof?

If you (or anyone else) is willing to part ways with your rack, I could trade you the filler strips I pull off.

I can look but I think I tossed most of it. The parts I do have might not be worthwhile. I can shoot you a pm.
