MY NEW HOOD (pics!!) no 56k lol

i say put a heatshield on it, fro your old hood...

temps under the engine plus temps from the sun can get that thing pretty hot...and car paint or clear for that matter isn't rated for such high temps

alright thats what i did just in case, dont want to waste a hard earned $250 lol

Thats a good deal they are having. I wonder if they would sell the fiberglass grill for the protege pretty cheap? I may have to call.

Go to the site to get their number and call them up. All accessories are 'make your offer'. Seriously thinking of getting some eyelids.

Was that $250 shipped for BOTH hoods or $250 each? I know when I called them a while ago, they said I could pick it up from the NY warehouse.

No heat Sheild.

CLEAR THE HOOD !
Its been said already....BUT CLEAR IT!
Otherwise it WILL YELLOW.

ive heard it alot but what do u mean yellow? like the clearcoat will yellow?
do think it will last until summer? or do i have to get i clearcoated immediatley? because i was going to clear/paint it when i paint the whole car over the summer

It will be fine until summer, try to minimize exposure to direct sun (UV) in the mean time. Keep a close eye on that latch hook... it is only screwed in and not rivet'd! Those type are known to come loose, or break off.

oh ok thanks for the advice, and ill be sure to check that latch hook daily at least
i should have just bought one of ur guys' hoods and saved me some hassle lol

^ you could always change those screws to rivets, it would be easy enough to do if you find the screws loosen with vibration.

I would go ahead and cjenge them out anyway.....Beats a busted hood, windshield and roof.

very very nice. +1 for the extra clearcoat, it will b worth the extra bucks. As for the high heat silicone i think 3m products would be your best option.

alright yea im gonna get it cleared by some people in town cuz im not painting it till summer and i dont want to take any chances
i tried lookin for some 3m stuff but i couldnt ind any high heat and i dont want it messin up under neath the hood

I really wouldnt put the Heat sheild under it...Its really not neccessary.
Your hood wont get any hotter without it than it does sitting in the sun baking all day.

I have one of the original APC hoods, i never added any extra clear, or put any shielding under it. I live in Atlanta where the temps are known to get up there around 100 in the summer. I have had the hood for almost as long as ive had the car (since feb 02) with no cracking, peeling, or yellowing. I think i paid 400 or so, but def worth it. Just take care of it and you will be ok.
