it doesn't matter one bit if they buy you the 8 year 100,000 mile warranty when mazda sees that gauge cluster they'll prolly void you warranty forever and you wont get a dime of that money back. they dont care if you bought it like that. remember, they are doing the warranty for you, they're doing it for the car. they tried voiding a friend of mines warranty just because he used a different brand headlights than the stock ones. these guys are nazis. you will have no warranty with that cluster.

and the odometer... i am going to investigate that today... like after school i will know 100% on how the odometer works and if i'm gettin ripped... cuz last time i checked, on OBD II vehicles, its almost impossible to modify a cluster while trying to put less miles on a digital odometer... the computer corrupts and it won't even display anything... but ima make sure of that today... don't worry folks...
You do realize that they didnt have to mess with the odometer at all right? They just switched out the possibly higher mileage Mazdaspeed cluster(the whole unit including the speedo, tach, etc.) with a lower mileage LX cluster. You do know thats what we are telling you yes?

Ima find that out bout the cluster today...

Ugh... are you going to listen to a teacher that knows about cars in general or are you going to listen to a community that has seen TONS of these clusters changed out first hand? I am telling you man, and so are the other people in this thread... THE CLUSTER WILL READ THE MILEAGE THAT WAS ON THE DONOR CAR... NOT THE MILEAGE OF THE CAR THAT THE GAUGE IS SWAPPED INTO!!!!

Just whatever... buy the car and let us say we told you so.

the instructor said that clusters have chips inside that u can switch... the chip had to had been switched with the old cluster cuz the mileage seems very very legit... very... a normal person does drive 15k miles a year... the last mileage was around 25k miles, now its 40k... 15k difference...very legit to me... also, ima make sure there jus not face plates... cuz i could argue this whole time when it was jus the face plates changed...

everyone is telling me not to sweat it cuz the cluster doesn't take me to work/home/school, it the engine... if the engine is great, no codes, no bad history...then its all good... the cluster is nothing really, and it sounds very very legit... so you guys are making a small thing "the cluster" such a huge thing... when the most important thing is if the car runs great... now that i'm getting an extended warranty and all... the cluster is the last thing i really have to worry about... as long as it tells me when 3000 miles are up to change the oil and how fast i'm goin and how much gas and if the engine is cool, then i'm good...

jeez... i'll address the cluster issue with the dealership so they will be aware, but its not that big of a deal... everything is up to date...

Who the **** would bother to do that. You had to specifically ask a person who knows. Do you think a "Standard Ricer" would bother...

HOLY ****! It's not the cluster we are worried about. It's this.. Plain and simple.

If the cluster has been swapped.... WHY?(boom02)

I would be concerned, there is no logial reason to swap it unless someone simply broke it and needed a new cheap one to replace it, but the reality is that it could be something much more troublesome.

If the extended warranty is based on a certain number of miles, having the wrong gauge cluster is all they need to deny any claims you try to make based on odometer tampering. You might as well forget about any warranty and start a savings account today in case something breaks in the future.

THIS is the big one here. If you have ANY major problems with that car, throw your warranty paper work right out the window because they WILL find a way to void you. Send a PM to daedulus and ask him what happened with his used msp that he bought. Since you probably won't, I'll just go ahead and tell you... he bought a stock "looking" msp, just like you are about to do, and he had major problems with it. Mazda WOULD NOT honor the warranty because the car had been modified by the previous owner. He got screwed just like you will if you have any problems with that car. That "extended" warranty is just another tool for them to get people who are obviously not doing their homework to buy a car from them.

THAT WARRANTY MEANS JACK s*** IF THE CAR HAS EVER BEEN MODDED.

Comprende?

I bought a damn near brand new orange one with 16000 miles for 13000.
I can imagine what 18k plus mods would add up to...
