My impression of the MS6

A couple of weeks ago we got a few in finally at the dealership I work at, not sure if we'll be getting more. There's one parked right in front of my desk constantly calling my name. I'd love to take it for a spin to see how it handles, but they're keeping pretty tight control over them - most people seriously looking to buy one of these want as few kms on the car as possible. Sucks, but if it were me doing the buying, I'd want the same thing.

Do you know anything yet about whether this will be like the MSP and only be made for one year? Or will this be a standard new 'trim level' from now on?

BZZ, Mazda3, etc, since I am seriously wanting to know more about the MS6, other than here on the forum, is there any where I can find some good info on it? The sales guys at work are idiots so it's no use asking them. If you're allowed to, any literature or info you could pm/email me would be greatly appreciated.

Blkzoomzoom,

The forged crank info was from a mazda press release early on about the DFI engine setup. The rod info is an assumption based on the fact the standard 6i and 6s both use sinster forged rods.

If the training manual mentions coating, it probably means the pistons are hyperleutic like standard, with a graphic skirt coating and a moly crown coating.

I only have the FSM and tech highlights book (freaking thing is HUGE), not the training manual =/. The FSM is basically utterly worthless in regards to actual specs and information about the car. Just a bunch of pictures with "remove in order indicated". Thanks mazda. lol

I take that all back. It does mention the rods and crank is forged .
It states the pistons as " Aluminum alloy dished pistons for heat dissipation and lower compression" It doesn't say anything about the coating but it has pictures of a cut-away motor and you can see some type of coating on the side of the piston.
Also something not mentioned, they added oil jets to squirt the pistons to cool them down.

This is ridiculous! I'm scared to do even one 5-6k launch in my Saabaru WRX. 950 is *insane*. After winter weather is over, I think I may require an MS6 :D

I know what you mean, I have the WRX. You could do a 5-6k launch if you wish, just enjoy it - it will be your last.(boom02)

If you think your Saabaru tranny is weak, I've got the 2002, which is considered the weakest of them. Still, with AWD, I find that slipping the clutch right from the low end (maybe 2k) is fine, plenty of accelleration for most situations.

The WRX is a very mod friendly car from what I've seen. The tranny can be upgraded to an RA gearset, v7 Spec C, or STI with DCCD swap. Plenty of tuning options, and an abundance of aftermarket support are some of the reasons I bought the car. Not that it's all roses, the stock suspension has some very "communicative" body roll felt during turns and the cat in the uppipe delays boost response.

Still, I might have to hit a Mazda Dealership this summer for a test drive in the MS6, I'm curious about how the car feels. My friend Erik has an Audi S4, and that is one mean sleeper of a sedan.

Ya the oil jets are pretty sweet. Does the training manual mention anything about the radiator? The coolant capacity is increased about 1.5 qts, but they make no mention of a revised radiator sizing.

This slightly concerns me as the coolant is now responsible for cooling not only the engine itself, but the oil, turbo, and transfer case as well. I'm hoping it just wasn't mentioned in the tech highlights book, otherwise if I get one, I think my first mod would probably be a ron davis radiator for the thing (triple core/alumnium tanks). That thing did wonders on my 6s.
