well since it's getting colder out i've started to run my heat more but it's not very hot. it will get warm but not hot. i don't think it's my heater core because all the experiences i've had with that the passenger floorboard will get wet. i've tried to checking the control arms and they seem fine and tight. anyone have any ideas on where i should go next?

thanks

check the cable behind the glove box. i had the same problem last year, the cable came loose and wouldnt go to hott on the heater... just take out ur glove back(open glove box, push on both sides of the box and pull down... way easier than tring to take it screw by screw) then turn the heat and cold switch while looking behind the controls. if you see a cable or a clip that is moving around then it has fallen off of the orginial position just push the clip back onto the position and that should be it. that was my problem.

that was my problem, i remember messing with that cable last year when i put in my new cd player but never had any problems way back when. but i guess when i was up under there a few weeks ago tearing into the ecu i knocked it loose.

just picked my MP3 up and I experienced this problem. . .gonna do this first thing tomorrow!

ok heres how to fix the heater problem (most likely since this is what happens on MOST MP3's).
First take the glovecompartment box off. Just squeeze in the side of the compartment and pull and it should come out. next locate the cable behind the a/c controls.

now see the part where it says "pull out and off" on the pic (not my pic, i jacked it) do the opposite. If your cable is not connected to the white tab thingy, then just put it on.

and also the car will automaticly turn the a/c on when you turn on the defrost. If you want to learn how to dissable it go here.

I just checked mine, the cable was attached, however, that metal clip that holds the black part of the cable to one of the white "gears" wasn't attached. I moved the temp gauge to see, and once I attached it, it had full range of motion to it. Plus the cable had a slight bend in it at the attachment point. weird.

I didn't turn the car/heater on, but there was some range of motion that now on the swtich/gears that wasn't there before. I'll check it out later!

yeah that thing goes out to. its the whole electric knob piece behind the beizel. it also screws up the a/c. common problem on the mp3 and early proteges.

my car has no heat either, if its not the controls how do i know if its the relay or could it be the heater core or filter or something? my heat shows signs of heat sometimes but usually just blasts freezing air.

how is your a/c? does it work in all positions? or does (especially #2) go on and off from time to time?

Thanks, I had the same problem after installing my new radio. As mentioned above the black clip just needed pushed back onto the white plastic piece, works perfect again! Thanks for the posts, saved me a trip to the stupid dealer and some money as well!
