My ENGINE FELL OUT!!! Im NOT JOKING, This #UCKIN SUCKS!!!!!

First I've heard. Can you elaborate, provide a link or something?

Here's the link to the Japan recall notice. To save you the time translating, it basically says in engines with turbochargers the transmission mount might come loose and will break if too much torque is applied.

http://www.mazda.co.jp/service/recall/177/105/002150.html

I think a full translation was posted on another thread titled "Broken mount... now its my turn" with a diagram of the exact bolt at issue.

hey voicekoil, i am the guy from cardomain that ordered my wife a 2008 ms3. what did you car sound like when the mount failed? i mean, what should i tell my wife to listen for incase this happens so she doesn't drive it any farther. also, i looked at the nhtsa website and there is an ongoing investigation on the motor mount problems, i hope they upgrade them for the 2008 models. good luck with you problem man, i still can't believe any car with 7500 had a motor mount failure.

Whats up bro glad to see you made your way over here! It was a clunking noise, basicaly you could hear it between shifts, and then it got bad enough to where I could make it do it by just pushing the gas and letting off fast. Once it got loud enough to do that it failed within the same week.

Once again for everyone the reason I didnt check it is because I didnt honestly think it would happen to me, my dealer said they checked it out and it was fine, once it started getting bad sounding I made an appointment to get it checked again and it failed the day before I got it in there.

Also, I havent started yelling at anyone yet, Ive talked to everyonee like a decent human being and just emphasized my point of the story, that this should never have happend and Im not very comfortable with the people that said it was fine are the ones that are going to fix it. Ive emphazied how this is happening to other MS3s and I was blown off by my dealer when I brought it to their attention, which basically meant to me they did not care about my safety... Just like the all weather floor mats I bought, I put them in and the gas pedal stuck and I brought them back and said WTF is this and they acted like it was no big deal, heres your money and that was it, luckly I didnt fly into some thing or blow my damn engine... Then they actually had a recall on those...

Its more detailed than that but Im not just yelling to yell, Im telling them sternly where Im coming from and that this is completely unacceptable in any circumstances, this mount should not have failed, and the other mount should not have crumbled like it did, I was going 5mph and barely had my foot on the gas, I couldnt imagine it breaking if I was shifting hard... ..

It'll take more than an engine falling out to stop me from buying one. I'd rather have a possibly faulty MS3 than one of the alternatives. Unless Angelina Jolie is one of the alternatives. Then it wouldn't matter how nice the MS3 was, it'd just have to do without me.

Some thing like a wheel falling off a high speeds maybe? Air bags deploy when you press the gas pedal? Your horn plays the tune from psycho? - I am not sure what you mean, because engine breaking lose from it's original mounting point is pretty substantial.

Not that its the major issue here but I wonder if they would replace the MS CAI with out question or are they going to say its after market and not pay.

Personally I feel if you had a gold watch mounted to the side of the engine bay and it got crushed due to their faulty mount it should be replaced. They are directly responsible for the damages to your car from the way I see it. I would at first not ask but let them know you want those items replaced and bring with you the receipts or a copy of where they can be purchased and for how much.

This wouldnt be so much a question more then it would be an expectation of them and then sit back and let them try to b**** out of paying for it. At that point you start askign who can take care of this and how can they be contacted then ask for the person whom you are talking to last name ect.

If you push enough you will get that stuff replaced as should you so dont let down but dont be a dick because people wont want to deal with a dick. The trick is to make them feel bad for telling you no and put them in that position the best you can.

Basically you make it very clear to them that they had 2 chances to make this right and avoid any further costs due to damages. At this point that is over with and now its time to make it right and that means being back to the way it was before the failure. If it means the dealer forking over cash for your damaged mods I dont see that as being far fetched in any way. If they feel it is then you start calling those numbers and raise hell.

I wondered that aswell, I talked to a Mazda Rep on the phone and he said most likely, he said he cant see them so he cant say for sure, but he would directly talk to the dealer and have them make the call on that. Im assuming that if its not some bootleg tin vent intake or something is what he meant, or if its not even damaged. But my intake and bov are damaged and he didnt seem to have a problem of them getting replaced so long as they were worthy of replacing.

So 14 members on that other web site, those guys should all report it too if they already haven't yet.

I reported mine already, even got a call about it from someone at NHSTA. I told them what happened and what i thought COULD have happened if it was at a higher speed.
Haven't heard anything else.

For the record i was mad that it happened but i also had to laugh since my car broke right after making a smartass comment on the forum about another members mount failure. "who's next" was my comment. Couples days later i was "that" guy.

Should owners be concerned? YES. Does mazda need to do something? YES, Are they doing something about it YES! But its like this, NOT all cars need a fix, some will never have a problem, so its financially better for them to fix the problems one at a time as they come, than doing a massive recall. Remember in the end its not about the customer, ENTIRELY. the bean counters have a big hand in this.

HAS ANYONE GOTTEN HURT?
WHAT WAS THE FASTEST REPORTED SPEED OF A MOUNT FAILURE?? DId it cause a wreck?
HAS THERE BEEN ANY TYPE OF ACCIDENTS?
DID ANYONE ACTUALLY LOOSE CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE???

When these questions start having statistics behind them, then i'll raise my head in concern, until then, I'm just having fun driving the hell out of my MS3.

Oh last thing, ok you get mad, you get frustrated, you get mouthy, and then what.............(not saying anyone has done this just a point)...... you feel better? Its like road rage, I love creating situations where people get PISSED at me for my driving and then when they roll up on me to get mouthy. i roll down the window and very nicely and with sympathy...... APOLIGIZE. It shuts them up everytime. :D

Now i have succesfully drove the way i wanted, pissed you off, and calmed you down in no time flat. Its awesome (shocked)

I don't see how fixing or replacing a faulty mount on 5000 cars is going to cost more than 1000 drivelines. I'd feel a lot better knowing that the part was replaced on my car. I will not be happy if that breaks.

a motor mount failure is definatly a reason for recall

DEADGENERATION.......... theres a reason your not a bean counter. look at the past recalls......... how many people did firestone and ford hurt/kill before recalling the bad tires?

I'm not saying it SHOULDN"T happen, i'm just saying that on paper its not enough to mandate a recall, besides it isn't up to us to decide the recall.

Everytime i ever see a recall its a safety, emmisions, reliability recall that includes 10's of thousands of cars......... sorry 14 known cases and lets say even 100 UNKNOWN (WAG) cases aren't enough for mazda to do a recall. Simple math, its easier to fix the cars as they fail. Until the GOV't says its SAFETY ISSUE or enough cars start breaking i don;t see the recall coming very soon. I could be very wrong but thats the way i look at it given past history events surrounding recalls.

Like i said previously its like a right of passage............your not a true MS3 owner till the motor falls out :D

lol yea i saw a video on you tube about the new super duty ford that were shooting like 6 foot flames out of the exhaust..they recalled all of them

Wow, you took your car in with mods on it? You are a brave soul. Mazda will do whatever they can to not cover warranty. Just keep that in mind. That wasn't just for you justa4banger, that's for everyone. Please take your mods off before you take your car in. Just my 2 cents.

the problem right now is limited to a simple internet forum...I've have seen no press releases regarding this done by the mainstream media, so their reputation hasnt been touched...

They have to consider their reputation though. I hate bean counters.

Guys I will have a fix for this this weekend, I have been working on it for the last month trying to get it all done. Its the little things that keep holding back the release date. I have the mount fixed with a stud that works very well and we have almost finished the loop that keeps the tranny from dropping in case the fix we have does break.
