My 90' turbo Mazda Miata dyno, graphs, and specs

This is a dyno from my 90' Mazda Miata with the following mods.

1.6 stock motor - 50k miles
Greddy TD04-15G
Greddy manifold
Racing Mazda downpipe
Test pipe
Flyin Miata 2.25 dual cat back exhaust
Custom IC pipes
Starion IC
HKS SSQV
Hallman MBC
1.8 injectors
Vortech FMU
NGK extended plugs
Magnecor 8.5 wires
HKS foam filter
ACT extreme clutch
SS clutch line
Torsen LSD with 1.8 one piece axles
Simpson design short throw shifter
Emanage blue with pressure sensor, injector harness and main harness
Greddy full auto turbo timer
Greddy boost gauge
All fluids replaced with Redline synthetic

Last year I replaced the timing belt, waterpump, all seals, and other small maintenance items. Removed spare tire, jack, other small items in trunk. Full tank of gas and w/driver the car is under 2400lbs, couldnt be exact on a current number but will probably go down to 2300 this spring.

The following dyno slips and graph were from last year with the boost set at 8 psi spiking to 10-11 for a moment. The AFM cable kept coming loose at high revs and the HKS bov was causing false readings for manifold pressure. The dyno run is 1200rpms short of rev limit, so I could have expected some more power as the hp was still climbing.

After 22 pulls and a lot of tuning we gained over 40hp and 30lb-ft. The shop I went to had never tuned an Emanage but I had some idea of the support tool software so we got the hang of it.

Most issues are now fixed and I plan on doing more mods, fixing some other current issues, raising the boost to 15-16psi and doing a re-tune this spring. If I break the 250-260whp I will be quite happy. (thumb) The car now is roughly 1hp per 12lbs, if I break 250ish it will be 1hp per 9lbs. To give you an idea a new STI has 1hp per 11.5lbs. (poke)

With a 1.6 that is not even forged?
That is awesome.
Congrats.
I wish my msp was like that (boom07)

I really hate the Greddy setup with a passion, I hate the turbo location. Nice numbers though, I plan on going RacingBeat headders, headwork, and ITB on my Miata monster.

Greddy setup is fine for those that that like to tool around themselves.....
BTW I wouldnt call headers, headwork, and ITBS any base for a "MONSTERMIATA", but it'll sound pretty good.

I havent even registered the car yet this season and am going to try and do it tmr....but once its out and about (legally) I plan on a retune and I'm going to bump the boost and go for the 250whp mark. With my current mods and some new parts I should be able to reach that without a problem.

sounds like one mean car.

any other plans? wheels and suspension?

Thanks bro.

The mods listed above are only the ones to do with the engine/turbo setup. I have alot more done to the car than just the above. The complete suspension has been redone as well.

FM springs
FM rear pillow mounts
FM front and rear sways
KYB AGX adj shocks
And a spec alignment

New wheels and tires are next in line along with my new headlights and CF racing seats. My GF just got me a rollbar that will go in this week and should help with stiffening the chassis. Other than those things Im going to gradually work on the audio throughout the summer.

I just recently blew a bearing or a rod in my Envoy and now need to get a crate motor from GM and deal with that. So the Miata has to wait a little for another set of mods.

STis have a better p/w ratio than 11.5

The 05 is 10.99lbs/hp, the 04 is sligtly better, the 06 slightly worse, but its not 11.5 in any case.
In any case, if you hit 9lbs/hp you will shred an STI :)

Well a quick search on Google brought up a stock weight of 3263lbs for a 04/05 STI and a weight of 3351lbs for an 06. And the guys on the suby forums base their "whp" anywhere from 235-250whp. So the math actually comes out closer to 1hp per 13lbs. STIs are pretty good out of the factory, but they certainly dont dominate the planet stock.

Not unless the STI has two flat tires.

Having the power is one thing, getting it hooked up is another.
