:
01 MX-5
hi im new to the fourm this being my first post. whats up!

this will be my DD/auto-x car i was wondering if any one could tell me what differences there are between models. i dont want a mazdaspeed b/c i dont like the lip kit i just want one with all four mud gards to save my friends from the tires going on it.

i want black top, black interor, nardi wheel, 15" wheels, 5speed, and mud gards in whatever color as long as no major bodyword is needed.

if anyone knows of a car for sale close to what im looking for let me know...

thank you,

Just remember NA (1990-1997) IS BEST!

NBs are the better car, but NAs are better ROADSTERS.

Cheat sheet:

1990 - Short-nose crank defect that could blow motor, oil pan pre-drilled for turbo
1991 - "
1992 - 1.6L B6s were fixed and are now bullet proof, oil pan pre-drilled for turbo
1993 - "
1994 - 1.8 BP engine introduced, larger brakes, more chassis stiffening
1995 - "
1996 - BP updated to OBD-II, gains 3hp to a total of 133hp
1997 - Solid rocker lifters, a handfull more HP due to ECU tuning the transmission eats anyway
1998 - No Miatas sold for this year
1999 - New NB body style, new 1999-style BP head that is leagues better
2000 - Mazda introduces VVT, ruins car

From here on I have no idea, cause NA IS BEST.

ULTIMATE MIATA (using stock parts) AKA MY FRANKENMIATA

1990-1993 chasis *Completed* I have a 1993
A-Package *Completed* No power anything
1994 brakes and chasis stiffening *In progress*
1994+ engine swap *Completed* I have a 1997 BP
1999 head *Looking for one*

There's a guy in Orlando running a 13.9 on stock BP engine in his 1993 with tuning and IRTBs. The B6 and BP are both turbo ****** in a way Protege owners could only dream about. Search the user "Leatherface24" on this forum to see a stock block 300whp Miata in action.

The BP is noisy and mine CONSUMES oil but NEVER smokes and never has problems. I am even still using the 1.6 B6 ECU with a duct taped in RX-7 MAF and I have no real hick-ups other than a goofy idle.

i would disagree. A 99 sport package miatas with turbos are beast. They have the larger engine, weights close the 1.8 na's(espically if you add the braces and stuff). And already comes with the other equipment.

The Miata 1.6 oil pan was neither pre drilled nor in any way cast to accept an oil return line by default.

The short nose defect will not blow the engine, just result in a damaged crank nose that is typically due to improper or negligent reassembly. Other than this, all of the 1.6L engines were just as durable as the next.

That's very debatable. Define ultimate.

I have a '99 head in the basement and will be picking up a '99 long block this weekend for $400 ;)

I've always heard the 1.6 was tapped already, I will have to inquire further about this... TO THE INTERNET!

The engine block has ports for oil and water, perhaps that's what you are thinking about. However, the 1.6L Miata was never offered in turbo trim, and the RWD oil pan was only used on the Miata, so no reason for oil ports.

I just bought a 99 NB, so obviously that gets my endorsement. (2thumbs)

the 1.6l block does also have an oil drain port left over from the 323GTX days. It's located near the oil filter.

As far as 1998 Miadas, there wasn't any sold in The States.
