MSP's blow up due to color?

I doubt that the color has anything to do with ZOOM-ZOOM : BOOM! It has more to do with boost abuse than anything else. I boost all the time in 5th gear. Most of my driving is on the highway. I just don't do it for long runs. I'd get rid of the car if it couldn't handle boost in 5th.

okay that makes sense...so when tunning you should put less boost at higher RPMs right...jsut for added insureence. Just want to know because this might come in handy for tunning.

Cant imainge anyone going up a steep hill in 5th. Just sounds like smart driving to me...so I dont believe its a huge problem. well...I always try to keep my car under 4K (shifting) for maximum gas milage but as you said I would never pound or race int he wrong gear. But I agree if your on the highway at 5th gear and you want to pas a car, there should be no problem with giving it a bit of gas/boost to pass someone. But what do I know I've been off this board for so long that I feel like a newb. Im still shocked that emanage finally worked and 400 hp msp build up.

The idea is to not go into boost if your engine is lugging(you are in too high a gear, your rpms are low). I think of it like this: when the air fuel mixture ignites and the engine is barely moving because you are in too high a gear, you have a tremendous amount of pressure sitting in your combustion chamber for a longer than necessary time period. This pressure is stressing your engine components, particularly our linguini rods. Just downshift, and everything should be gravy.
The bike analogy works good too, I actually wore out my bike pretty quick from riding in too high a gear, my bike couldn't handle all that torque I produced (laugh).

Most blown engines have been so b/c boostin' too high of monkeing around with fuel management. No one has blown by being stock to my knowledge. Yet some cars, especially Yellows, seem to have more problems than others, like LSD failures, leaks all over the place and so on...
Personality is def. a factor and people choosing yellow (unless it was the only color left) have a higher chance to be attracted to rice :D

.... So for tunnign purpose I could put in a lower boost for top gear but I want to know about 3rd and 4th...is it okay to boost 6 psi?

I think you'll be fine. If you are unmodded and have 6psi stock you shouldn't worry about a thing. If you have some mods like me you should be ok, but no garuntees.

I'm holding about 6psi (occasionally spiking to 7) with no boost controller. I've been running this way, hard in 2nd-3rd every day on my way to work (usually up to 5500-6000 RPMs) with no problems. I do so in 4th about 1-2 times a week. So far so good with no engine problems after over 2 years of ownership.

I used to boost in 5th too, but after getting the FMIC and SRI I never get over 2psi in 5th cause I worry about the backpressure from the stock exhaust. If I've allready topped out 4th gear and I'm not ahead I'm not going to get there so the race is allready over.
