MSP's blow up due to color?

dude lol no way there have been TONS of blown orange

Yup, "TwistedJeckle" and "ForceFed" are 2 that come to mind right away. I believe both were even stock at the time.

Aha,

I don't remember TwistedJeckle, but I completely forgot about ForceFed.

Of course the smaller production number of the orange and the fact that like 75% (sarcastic exageration) got totaled out in their first year could have a lot to do with why I can't recall of any off hand.

I think this number might be a little more accurate than you think. Almost every wrecked MSP I've come across in the past two years have been orange. Hell I have one in my garage right now. There is a another wrecked one on ebay right now I think, and they have parts from two spicy wrecks in that auction. A black MSP that hit a poll "Really F***ing Hard" head on got sold this past week down in georgia I beleive.
People just love smacking these things up!

Yeah, I noticed the same shortly after joining the forums. The orange MSPs seemed to be getting wrecked at a much faster rate than any other color. (Which is sad considering IIRC less orange were produced than any other color.)

This fact actually strengthens the case about aggressive drivers buying the flashy colors. In fact it seems the buyers of orange MSPs were so aggressive they barely had time to mod. their cars before they wrecked them. lol.

None of the cars came flashed from Mazda. The flash was out and some dealers flashed them before the were sold but most didn't!

well the 2003s came unflashed, so they have a better chance of making it compared to the 2003.5s that came flashed. The added timing from the flash makes blowing the motor more common in the 03.5s once the boost is upped. fyi-one spike of 10+ psi going full load on a flashed ECU could mean you got yourself a paper weight. putting alot of load in 5th gear im guessing also has a big part in it. Dont put alot of load in 5th ESPECIALLY WITH A FLASHED ECU RUNNING HIGHER THAN STOCK BOOST!.

why is this? A local guy blew his motor running high speeds in 5th gear obviously, but on stock boost.

yea i mean i understand that 5th gear puts more load on the engine. But if you are doing 110+ then what other option do you have? Are we not supposed to be able to floor are cars in top gear? I cant see it putting a huge strain on the engine if you are allready travaling fast enough to max out 4th gear.

I dont understand this gear problem because I was offf this board when it was covered. could you explain more about the loads of each gear and any way around it? Stronger LSD or is this an engien problem...so a build engien will be problem solved.

Why do I ask this? With any good electronic boost controller you can control the bosot in each gear. So for tunnign purpose I could put in a lower boost for top gear but I want to know about 3rd and 4th...is it okay to boost 6 psi?

someone explained the gear thing like this...when youre going up a hill on your bike and you are in the highest gear, it takes alot of damn work to get up that hill, correct? less rotations but WAY more work...if you downshift, it takes less effort, but more RPMs to get up. the amount of load that you place on the engine is what kills it.

but is it bad if you are on full boost in 5th when you are doing like 120+? I mean youre rpms are still high...

it depensd how much load is being put on the engine. i dont know how to calculate load numbers

Lugging the engine is bad. Period. The rods are the size of your index finger. If you are crusing 120 and put it in 5th. and your already doing 5500 rpm it doesn't matter because there isn't that much load on the engine. If you put it in 5th. at 70mph and pund it your putting a hellova lot more stress.

Lugging = Stress, Stress = Badong

okay that makes sense...so when tunning you should put less boost at higher RPMs right...jsut for added insureence. Just want to know because this might come in handy for tunning.

Cant imainge anyone going up a steep hill in 5th. Just sounds like smart driving to me...so I dont believe its a huge problem. well...I always try to keep my car under 4K (shifting) for maximum gas milage but as you said I would never pound or race int he wrong gear. But I agree if your on the highway at 5th gear and you want to pas a car, there should be no problem with giving it a bit of gas/boost to pass someone. But what do I know I've been off this board for so long that I feel like a newb. Im still shocked that emanage finally worked and 400 hp msp build up.
