MSP reliable?...prove it!

Thats a interesting study. I guess it proves Mazdas are good cars along with other sources.
As far as the MSP is concerned, I havent had any problems except for some suspension squeeking on bumps, which went away with "bushing lubrication". I DO KNOW that the 323/Protege is a really reliable car in that there are still lots on the road and the statistics from CR etc. :)
But common sense says that a reliable car with a added turbo shouldnt be as long lasting as the basic car(base Pro). I dont know what that what will mean down the line..say in 60k miles and up.

But overall Id say the MSP is a well executed package with the performance it has...and the target buyer of the MSP probably wouldnt keep it for 10 years anyway since enthusiasts tend to fickle and impatient and wanting to move on to the "next best thing". (thumb)

I have 35,000 miles and I really drive the car to the max, I have had the boost at 14psi for 7/8 of the car's life, raneverything that will race and heel toe it at every opportunity, the only thing that I would replace on the car at this point is the motor mounts and rear sway bar bushings and rotors. that's it

my car works... sure, it has problems, but look, seriously, what car doesnt... go look at any other web board for another car and see if ppl arent bitching about one thing or another......

I love my msp... tell him/her to get it...

Kind of off topic, but my friend's father found a BMW on the side of the road (long story) and he drove it for like YEARS. One day it stopped working, and my friend asked why and his dad said "Well, I didn't really care about the car so I stopped chagned the oil." The car went atleast 2 years with out an oil change. It was a miracle.

I know a guy in a Grand Prix drover 70k before ever changing the oil and the car still didn't die... I was like wtf... Then he told me he was using that prolong stuff.. but when he did change the oil and drove it more, the car died at 75k... HEHEHE

So you think Proteges (the MSP in particular) have bad reliability?
Protegs (and P5s) in general? NO! MSPs? Yes, I do think they have problems, as has been well-documented on this site. The problem is that you can't get data for only the MSPs, MP3s, or P5s -- they're lumped into all the other Protegs.

Give your buddy this ammo on Protegs from Consumer Reports. The red checks mean better than average industry reliability...

There are still a few new MSPs out there for 16k. Buying a used one will only save him 2k at most.
I looked & only found about 6 listed online. Every single one is a 2003.5 & is listed at MSRP ($21k  ).

If they are that insistent on proof then why dont you have them fly into John Wayne Airport, rent a car, drive to Irvine and go see the Miata at their HQ.

It has over 500,000 miles on it... I think thats enough proof ... :)
