MSP re-sale value

16.5 k dealer trade in when i was looking at the sti. The value is pretty high in southern california.

Wow, I'd trade mine in for an STI if they'd give me that, hell I'd have positive equity.

What dealer in san diego was gonna give u 16.5K....thats not too bad...

The MSP's lack of resale is simply due to the demand, which is unfortunately low; most likely caused by the problems, the lack of marketing, and the lack of exposure.

I get that everyday....people don't know what the MSP is. My Garbage guy asked me what kinda car I had on my drive way. Hes like "Man thats a sharpe lookin Mazda! Does it have a rotary in it?" Mazda did a poor job marketing our cars. Some people still think my car is a EVO....can't they see the Mazda emblem on the grill?

I admit I never would have considered the MSP if it wasnt for my friend who drove a MSP. My first impression was it only makes 170hp turboed? The ads never mentioned about the awsome suspension/handeling (I may be wrong). Then I went to the dealer (alone) and test drove it...and loved it! Plus it was Mazda's "Test the Best" rebate.

Oh another problem is that apparently some of my friends tried to test drive a MSP and the dealers wouldn't let them. Think of all the potential buyers that were turned away.

Yup, Bob Baker gives good cash in trade in's. Thats where I was getting my WRX for $21500!!!!!!!!! They were going to give me $9500 on my 46000 mile P5. I owe about $12000, so I think that not to bad. Unfortunately, the deal didn't go through :( .

My Dealer here offered me 16,000 for my speed, was gonna get a new 6, but I can't part with my SPEED now, I've got attached to it!!:D

My speed has 9000 mi, I bought the first one in Kansas a year ago tomorrow!!
I was just at the dealer a few weeks ago. They don't have any more speeds, they got 12 of all colors, and they have people coming in asking for the Spicy Orange! Sorry Dealer Dip s****!:D

People have been upset around here when they looked at trading their MSP.

Keep in mind that you can buy a new one right now for around $15.5-16k, so you'll probably be looking at $10-12k on a dealer trade right now.

Resale value is plummeting as they pile on incentives.

Where the hell are you guys finding MSP's for 15-16K????? Is this the new 3.5 style or the older style? s*** I basically paid that much for my 03 LX!!!

guys keep in mind what a dealer offers you means nothing. us dealers had a way of making people happy with their trade. for example, say your trade is only worth 10k but you say you want 12k for it, and we have 3k dollars to work with in the car youre buying. what we would do is say we knocked the car down 1k (which makes you happy) and give you 12k for your trade, when in reality we gave you 10 for your trade and knocked off 3k for the car. it all depends on the customer. a good salesman will realize what is important to his/her customer, and make them happy in that way.. for example, i may notice that the customer is concerned not so much about payments, but interest rate, or another may be concerned about payments or total price of vehicle, and another may be really interested in what they get for their trade. some customers make such a big deal about their trade, we couldve hosed them on the car but as long as they got what they wanted for the trade they were happy. so dont say what they "gave" you or quoted you until you see it on the FINAL paperwork. look closely, and see how often they do that.

15995 for 03, 16495 for 03.5 was the advertised specials in Austin, TX during October.

No hassle pricing, it was in the newspaper.

I just called one of my local dealers and asked them what I could get for trade-in for my ride on an RX8. I made up some story about making the wrong choice, I love the RX8, blah blah I made the wrong decision.

They were nice and she said she'd investigate.

She called back and said the problem with trading in is there's no book price yet. No KBB or Nada price so they don't even know how to price it. She said, they're expecting to see it in there sometime this month and they pretty much use that as their guide.

Now, edmunds TMV has 2003 MSP's at $16,100 (plus $500 for condition adjustment, and $500 for my mileage adjustment (only 2500 miles), meaning a trade-in of $17,100. She said they don't use Edmunds as a guide, but hopefully Nada and KBB will be around that price.

Anyways, just a FYI for people.

PS - She then told me I'd be better of trading in on a Mazda 6 then a RX8 because they still have 03 6's with massive rebates, so some of that could cover any negative equity if there is any.

well that blows for me

Sorry man, they had all 03's going for $5g's off. That means PR5's were being had for 11-12k, I saw non-MSP proteges going for 11k, but I don't know what body style.

they prolly use NADA black book (bi-weekly)

Mathew, she said they checked kbb.com and napaguides.com

Maybe they checked this after they didn't find it in their book.

Is the 'black-guide' post different prices then the online trade-in value?
