MSP radiator fans

When does the passenger side fan turns on? mine never turns on (scratch)
It should turn on while the A/C is running. It is an auxilary fan for the extra load and heat the A/C system puts on the engine.

An interesting fact I found out too is that if you have no Freon in your AC system, the fan will not turn on at all. I though my fan was bad because of heat from my turbo, but a tech at a local Mazda dealership added freon to my system (My AC condensor has hole in it), and the fan worked like normal!

Interesting, my AC hasn't been that cold latley. Thanks for the tip, I'll check it out.

I have a question about this too. I searched for a while and this was the closest thread to my question but slightly different.

My radiator fan doesn't turn on unless I turn the A/C on. With the A/C off, both fans are off, and with the A/C on, both fans are on. Diagnosis?

normal. Thats what is supposed to happen.

just out of curiosity hass anyone wired up the car to run both fans when the radiator fan comes on.

Why would you want to do that? They designed the car to be cooled with one fan, don't think you need two.

I have them wired to a switch so I can turn them on when I want, but also they are still controled by the fan control module. This way I can cool the car down between runs.

You should write a How-To on that. It's a great idea!

do you think it would be possible to splice the 2nd fans wires into the other fan, so they would both kick in at same time? Not sure how it would affect the A/C,

does the 1st fan (drivers side) always kick on first or say if you turn on the car and idle with the A/C on is the second fan only going to run?

I suppose if both fans run that equals cooler engine temps right? Isn't that what we want, especially with turbos?

I wouldn't do it. It may burn the relay or blow a fuse, etc. Besides the fans will still shut off when a certain ect temp. is obtained so you won't get colder temps anyways.

Those stock fan's CFM/amps drawn ratio is horrible. Get some spal fans.

To answer the questions, it is possible to wire them to run at the same time. Either the switching applies 12V to one line or has a constant 12v on both the supply and return line and removes it from the return line and switches to Gnd to create a difference of potetial and turn it on. I might do this when my Spal fans get here with my DP.

Which spal fan are you getting? Will it fit on the stock radiator?

I'm getting them from Beau. He's sending me everything to make it fit correctly. I have a stock radiator and turbohoses SMIC.
