MSP on C&D TV

I saw the show today. I was rather pissed with the crappy review they gave.

You have to give up soft ride for good handling. But then again, Csaba Csere was drooling over a Pontiac Bonneville GXP at the SEMA show, so you can see what they want in handling. Smooshy over-sized Amercian sedan suspension crap!

AutoXer. If I'm "lucky" my bushings last 1 month- 6 weeks. Most times, it's every 3 weeks. Sorry for the news but it's true. Keep in mind though, that I am driving on probably far worse roads then you, and in far worse weather which seems to greatly reduce their lifespan.

One good thing I will say about C/D show is that is was great for seeing the color of the car. Shined really nice, and was very close to what I've seen in person. They even did a real good close up of the paint, and you could see the sparkles.

Saw the C&D TV MSP review today...I must say that is the worst MSP review I've ever seen...I thought I was watching "Hi Rev Losers"...I didn't know it was possible to be less descriptive then the robots at "Hi Rev Fruiters".

They seem more enthusiastic about reviewing the "Drone Accord" or "8 billion served Camry"...WAKE UP!...the MSP is not just another sport compact...show some respect!

Where the hell is...whats his name...I want to say Jim Scouten or something...was he on motortrend tv...the guy who would end the shows by burning rubber?

It seems all of the magazines that are run by the baby-boomers sing the same song. R & T, C & D, and even WOW (Can) say the same things "build up your muscles, don't launch hard in traffic, blah... blahh.. all because of the "HUGE" amounts of torque steer. I don't know about the other MSP owners but I've driven quite a few high hp fwd cars, NA and turbo, and the MSP is quite a bit easier to handle under hard throttle launches than most. Next on the boomers peve list is the "harsh, spine compressing ride", I do admit that you can definately feel the road, which i believe enhances driver response, let alone feeling more a part of the road. In Van the roads aren't that great and everyone I've taken for a ride (even my mom) was impressed with the "feel" of the car, and never once commented of any "harshness". Last but not least, the paint, i must admit, i wasn't to fond of the colour in the pics. But because i owned a black '00 LX (ES) for 2 yrs, i ended up chosing orange, and let me say that the paint looked much better once i could touch it. It looked even better once i got behind the wheel, and it's grown on me ever since. I must say though that i'm not to big on all of the attention it draws (police, theifs, you know). I think if i ever have to paint it, i'll have to go silver. And of course i hear rumors that they are going to release a 2003.5 MSP in gun metal w/ a different fr bumper.

Anyways i think that so called "experienced" auto journalists should realize the context in which a car of this kind should should be placed. It seems as if they are comparing it to something like a lincoln town car. The MSP is definately a top car in it's class, if you read their articles you would think that it was an ugly, uncomfortable, back-breakin', uncontrolable 30k (20kUS) car that can handle well and accelerate decently.

The only thing that wish was better would be the seat bolstering, but that is a simple (yet kinda expensive) fix. But if that's all i have to complain about, i'm way ahead of the game.

Tom, as a good comparison, I've had to have my bushings replaced twice so far in the year and a half and 22000 KM I've put on the car. I guess if you time it right, you can get the bushings replaced at the same time as the oil change. Just trying to be positive. :)

ehwal, I couldn't agree more.

One other Peeve the baby boomer generation keep bithing about are stereo's that have more then two large knobs on them. It's like they don't have the patience to sit down and read a small manual about their stereo.

Like I said, I cancled my Car and driver subscription ages back....I just couldn't care less about their opinions any more, and their car reviews are so inconsistent it doesn't make any sense. And they NEED to stop basing their final opinions on cars on preproduction vehicles. They've been doing this for years, and they never follow up with a real review of the final production car.

I'm wondering if the magazines who complain of torque steer are getting cars with an under-inflated tire. That can make exasperate torque steer, especially with an LSD.

I get AutoWeek - every week. Sure; the rest have prettier pictures. I got over that 20 years ago.

Sport Compact Car magazine (Oct. '02) puts the MAZDASPEED on top of their list, de-throning the Type R Integra. Really,,, nothing else matters. For the price, the MAZDASPEED is King!

Cheers!

 :D

There goes my anonymity... ;)

This is not good news...why is there no fix for this problem? I've read a bunch of related threads, but no one seemed to answer this question.

Anonymity?!? Secret agent?

And there is no fix because Mazda doesn't think it is a problem...:p

I think the best solution, even if it means paying a little money, is getting some decent sway bar ends made up aftermarket.
