MSP OEM Oil Filter Part #

I am currently changing the oil in my MSP for the first time. I had the dealer do it at 3000 miles. The filter that the parts dept. said was for my MSP:
B6Y1 14 302
is a different filter from what the dealer used on my car the last time. The filter I just pulled off is larger, and has the part number:
B6Y2 14 30

So which is the correct part number for the MSP? Is the other number for regular Protege's/P5's?

The B6Y1 is a smaller filter, and fits perfectly on a wrench my dad had bought for an old 1980's era Toyota.

Thanks in advance for any insight.

there are 2 different filters, there are the really small ones and then some that are slightly larger, if you go to your local parts store like autozone or the like and look up the protege5/mp3/msp in the purolator catalog you will see 2 different part numbers listed. I just keep using the one i have been using since day one, its the smaller pureone synthetic filter. works perfect for me and i use the cup wrench on the end of a ratchet.

MikeyG_U2 -

All Proteges use the same oil filter.

The B6Y2-14-302 is the older filter.

Mazda has discontinued using those and is now using the B6Y1-14-302-9A.

Yes, there is a small physical size difference between the two.

Hope this helps.

B6Y2 is a Tennex filter
B6Y1 is a Tokyo Roki filter which is the same one put on the car from the factory in Japan

Mazda used to sell the Tokyo Roki filters then switched to Tennex ones and now they just switched back. You can still get either kind if your dealer has stocked enough of the Tennex ones

btw... I have the JEY0-14-302A V6 filter on my car, it barely fits with the oil cooler on
