just wondering if the miller cycle engine would fit in a MSP, im tired of the worthless 2.0 and turbo. i want to swap out the motor while its in winter storage this winter to keep myself busy. i have a friend that has a spare kj-zem laying around that was rebuilt with a bunch of performance parts.

stock kj-zem's had 210hp and this one has 300+ never got a chance to test it since the car got tboned

the KJ block is pretty much the same as the KL with some very small differences. so anywhere a KL fits, a KJ will fit. even the KL trans bolts right on. so its def possible. just do alot of reading up on the miller cycle engine. as it works a bit differently then a normal motor. i dont see one hitting 300hp myself without a ton of work. a boosted kl would be a much more powerful choice, and probably alot easier to tune.

im well aware of how a miller cycle motor functions and the similarities of the kl's and the kj, just was concerned since ive never really swapped out motors before, i dont want to have everything tore apart and then find out it wont work. personally i think the kj is rather under rated, i didnt find it to difficult to build it up and tune it, the hardest part managing 450+hp in a front wheel drive car, it had more torque steer than a Impala SS. im also getting the motor at a very good price and the kj is a hell of a lot better than the worthless 2.0

The 2.0 isnt worthless, damn. Swap it if you hate it so much. You are probably the first so the only info you are going to find would be for a KL.

There are plenty of threads/posts about different engines in the MSP. It was my understanding that you wouldn't be able to fit a different engine in the Protege. Not w/o extensive work I would think, but also I don't know what the engine in question is. I am guessing a Millenia S if it is a Mazda engine

Yeah its the supercharged Miller cycle engine from the Millennia S. And as stated, if a KL fits in the protege, the KJ should too.

I know most KL swaps are OBD1 which makes it easier I believe than the KJ which would be OBD2 only. There is a lot of researching involved here.

It has been done many many times. thepope504 swapped a KL into his yellow MSP and turbo'd it, it was for sale for 5k. IukuniProtege has a KL in his Pro, and Lewis has one in his P5, along with durwood and several others. The KJ however is probably a first.

Bump. My Protege is now running with a KJ swap in front of an MX6 transmission. It's a PITA. I just got it running today. It's not making full power, as the ecu limits boost in first gear, and I'm thinking that's what's going on, I'm looking for suggestions on a way around it.

The hood has to be clearanced slightly, but it fits. Just the bracing. A CF hood would have no problem.

nice KJ there is a write on here and on several other sites on how to swap the kj into a p5 i haven't seen one in a MSP though
