MSP Gas mileage.....

I'm doing oil changes with Synthetic Lucas, and 5w20 Mobil One oil every 2k and 30165k on the car itself.

you change the oil every 2k? wow, that's a waste of money. and 5w20? what does your manual suggest you using... shouldn't it be 5w30 if you are living up there? i personally use 10w30 because of the warmer climate.

you should change your spark plugs, check vacuum lines and make sure there are no oil leaks. 155 miles on a tank is ridiculously low mileage. i get that at less than half a tank used. i usually get my gas light around 330-340 miles. i drive just city on weekdays and some highway on weekends.

edit: my last tank got me 347miles, filled up 11.7 gallons = 29.66mpg

Doest really cost me anything, but the lucas. Our shop carries this stuff by the bulk as far as oil goes. Plugs yeah i know that, i've been saying for a while now i have to get under the hood and change them. Vacuum lines i know are good b/c i just replaced them all with silicone lines, and ran a pressure test throughout the whole system only finding one significant leak, i just gotta try something diferent b/c im about to whip the huffy out of retirement soon enough.....

Also check tire pressure, air filter.

lol im damn fanatic with the tire pressue and having a clean filter...that was pretty much the first thing i ever learned to take care of back in the day

the best mileage I ever got in my MSP was 343 and that was highway the entire trip. i would average between 280 and 320. and thats usually fillin up with between 12.5-13.5 gallons. figure i was getting between 24 and 28mpg. i think at my worst i got around 250 out of a tank. i guess i was average. the scion gets about 340+ on 12 gallons and i can use the cheap stuff.

What is your boost set at? That is about 11.48 MPG's. I doubt that fouled plugs would give you that type of mpg. I can get anywhere from 25-31 mpg's on mainly highway driving. I consistenly get 22 mpgs in my Probe GT at 10-15 psi of boost. But that is driving extremely hard all of the time.

91 octane. Winter months I get around 400 kms per tank around town but never much above 400. Summer I get between 450-500. totally stock.

lets see the tank reads empty now...im gonna run 91 Octane and track my mileage and compare

the highest i can get in NE is 92... boo hiss... but yea man, definatly switch, better mileage or not, you are gonna blow your car up running that regular piss through it. Turbos need octane!

Do you not have 93 octane available in NY? (poke)

93 octane was put it from an empty tank...lets play the sitting game and wait now...i'll post when i see my little yellow light kick back on telling me im empty...

Cool.....but to be honest, I think you have another problem that is contributing to your abysmal gas mileage. Cheapo low-octane gasoline can cause problems, but getting only 155 miles per tank is something else.

lol oooooooooooh i know...im trying to live in denial narrowing out my possibilites before i start going nuts pin-pointing stuff and getting neck deep in all this

Low Octane Can Do Alot.... If The Computer Senses Knock It Will Retard Timing And Richen The Fuel Mixture Of Our Already Rich Running Cars.

my combined rush hour commute, lime creek road, suburbs city/highway long-term gas mileage is 30.5mpg. It hardly varies .5mpg to either side of that. I averaged 29+ the weekend of the 1st 2006 car meet with multiple trips through Lime Creek and the hill country. stock engine.
It has always seemed like reported gas mileage for this car is all over the map. check out some old threads:

Mods in the sig.
Summer = 91 octane for 400-420 km city with 40 mls acetone per tank, 360-380 km city without acetone, 540-560 km highway.

Winter = 91 octane for 340 km city without acetone. No winter mileage with acetone as my wife is driving the MSP now. Likewise, no winter highway mileage either.

Acetone Works.... Has Worked For Years. My Father Used To Sell A Addative That Was 95% Acetone. He Sold This Addative To A Company In Hawaii That Had 5000 Vehicles, Which Ran A Test On A Group Of 200 Vehicles (mixed Between Trucks, Cars, And Diesels) In All Cases They Reported Gains Over 2mpg And Cleaner Emissions. The Diesels Benefitted The Most With Less Moisture In The Fuel And Gains Over 5mpg. Another Major Benefit Of Acetone Is That It Destroys Carbon Build Up... This Was Found On A Few Vehicles Reaching Thier Tune-up Check Point, These Vehicles Spark Plugs Were Clean Along With The Cylinders And Piston Faces. Some Investigation Showed That The Acetone Also Helped To Clean The Fuel System And Break Up Clogs.

The Problem With Acetone Is That When You Weigh The Cost To Benefit Gas Companies Would Lose Too Much Income Because Of Two Factors. Factor One Acetone Is A Manufactured Substance Not A Refined Natural Substance (manufacturing Costs), And Factor Two Is That With Increased Mpg Sales Would Be Drastically Reduced.

How difficult is it to capitalize every single word you write? And also, WHYYYYYY!!!????

Interesting question.

I've got one for you:

You dug up a thread that's been dead for 5 months to make that comment. "WHYYYYYY!!!????"

On a side note, I'd like to find out if the thread starter identified the problem yet, and what it was.
