MSP Exhaust Manifold install

:
2003.5 Laser Blue MSP
Well on Monday CustomMSP(Anatoly), myself and a buddy of mine installed my MAM manifold. I got the manifold of of ebay, im not sure if its MAM but i dont know of a lot of places that make manifolds for MSP's and it looks like theirs.

So start off this was an experiance i will never forget. We started off by removing the heat shield, intake and my perrin IC pipe. Following that we removed my fans and removed all of the head bolts. The whole process was kinda simple we didnt use any pb blaster or wd-40 and we didnt strip any bolt studs etc. Once the manifold was off we removed the S-pipe, I was replaceing it with a corksport s-pipe. And we disconected the old manifold from the turbo.

Next we installed the new studs on the new manifold, and installed the cs spipe on the turbo. I originally planed to wrap the manifold with DEI header wrap but i got in the way of the egr pipe bolt which was a pain. Also i couldnt wrap the two middle pipes since they were too close and touching at some points. So the wrap came off. Once the turbo and the new manifold were installed we put the whole thing back. Re filled the coolant since it leaked from the trubo return and feed line.

So after everything was installed and the PITA Perrin IC was put back we stated the car, and had some exhaust leaks. We couldnt really figure out where it was comming from. So we took a drive to advanced auto to get some seafome to we could see where the exhaust was comming from.

THE FUN begins, on our way there everythig was ok driving normally. Once i stepped on it a little and went into boost a couple of times we noticed a few cluncks and bangs not major as we thought. So we parked at AA and got the seafoam and on the way to AA the exhaust got a little louder as did the leak. So start driving back and the car started to sound like a tractor. It would not boost past 1psi. So we come back to anatolys house and we notice that three of the four nuts holding the manifold to the turbo werent even there. We found one of them cracked in half sitting on the turbo.

So off came everythig AGAIN from the IC pipes to the studs, bolts, nuts, coolant, intake. And we had to run to home depot and get new nuts as they were closing up. So we finally put everything back together and lucklly this time on broke nuts.(LOL)(rofl2) .

Well so far the car is fine and i the maifold and turbo and still conected, but i still have a leak in between my s-pipe and DP. I ordered a new gasket for that and hopefully that will be it. The car feels faster and i had to turn the boost down from 10psi to 9 because i was hitting fuel cut.

Here are some pics of the whole thing enjoy. BIG PICS SORRY

Looks real good man. I hope when I get there someday, it goes half as well. A few hiccups are expected but it looks like it was fairly smooth sailing for you guys.
Ass dyno is telling you a big improvement??? Maybe time for some EMS (if not already) to really set it free.(glare)

Yeah the microtech and eaither some 550cc or 440cc injectors are in the works. Just saving up some more cash to get it all togehter and tuned. As far as the drive it feels faster and has more topend. I will dyno soon to know exactly where i stand.

Thanks, I wish things would of went a little smoother, but all in all im satisfied. I'm hitting the damn fuel cut alot now, and i have to keep lowering boost. Time for bigger injectors and ems.

just to keep you guys posted:

After driving the car around for a couple of days. I have noticed that the car pulls alot harder under lower boost than in higher boost. Low boost is at 7psi and high boost is between 8.5 and 9psi. I would raise the boost but the damn fuel cut is is pissing me off.

Also I have noticed blue smoke comming from my exhaust, it it not crazy but noticable, every once in a while when im standing and rev the car i see a little blue somke. Its kinda leading me to think that the turbo is slowly going. I dont think its the engine cause i only have 35K on it. But then again the fsde is not the strongest engine in the world.

Blue smoke usually means that oil is entering the cylinder area and being burned in the AF mixture. Your leaking oil somewhere and a seal or gasket most likely has failed. Its probably just a small leak since its not happening on a continuing basis.

cool, its crazy to think you bought that manifold off ebay but it sure looks nice and it was a good price.

I know wat you mean, I found it the same day Beau gave me a refund for his mam manifold. I was just searching as i always do and damn, it poped up. I was so suprised to find a manifold on ebay.

I resolved my high and low boost issue. I set the start boost option on my EBC lower so now the turbo spools up earlier and the car pulls alot better at both low and high boost. And i feel alot more top end, which is nice for a change.

wtf your a lucky b**** i am basically hitting the 6 month mark on the manifold and gave up and asked for my refund already. But nice to c your working things out and got a good manifold.
