MSD Dash Hawk installation and review

This thing arrived tonight and after some fiddling with the update (v2.4beta9) and loading the mazda profile found on the msd forums, i was finally able to adjust atleast the primary monitor screen and upload it to the DH. For a decade i had an Apexi S-AFC in my car and for several years i also had an Apexi Power FC with it's commander, so i was used to having parameter monitoring in-cabin. I decided i'd like to see RPM, Vacuum/Boost, water temp and vehicle speed to start.

Here are some pics of it installed. I used a left over Apexi AVC-R stand to mount the DH in a very convenient place. There is a great spot because steering wheel adjustment is barely affected throughout it's adjustment range.

- that damn scratch is a mystery to me. i noticed it today while driving, ugh!

In my first couple logs, i am surprised to notice that my car makes atleast 18psi at full song, and at times reaches 20. i am curious if that is pre IC or post IC...

here is a hosted zip folder of everything that was in my data folder for the DH utility- i just realized i have FTP space with comcast so it might not work - ftp://builthatch609@upload.comcast.net/builthatch datalog 1.zip

i still have to figure out why on the datalogs the TPS is labeled as 'relative TPS' and never seems to go much more than 60% or so at the most; gotta find the real TPS configuration.

I'd like to see if there is an on screen instant peak hold feature, sometime where i can just press a button and get the highest values for that trip in each monitoring position.

all in all i am very happy with this item, and i'm sure down the line it'll be come more and more handy. the main thing for me was being able to check boost w/o adding a gauge.

Is the DH still removable with the way you have it mounted?

yep, i covered the entire part of the mount behind the DH with some low profile industrial velcro that i use for mounting speed controls and receivers in off road rc cars. then i put a corresponding piece on the back to the DH. it comes off no problem while being pretty sturdy while mounted.

So what exactly can the Dash Hawk do? Does it monitor Boost among other things? Ive always wanted an ODBII scanner.

Sweet hairy leg shot! Hahaha looks like mine!

This install looks sweet also, simple but effective

i just read some post about aeroforce scanguage or whatever its called. how does the DH compare to it? i know i can hook a wideband up to it somehow how easy is that and how accurate are these obd2 scanguages?
