MSD Dash Hawk Availability

Thought the Forum might like to know some information on the MSD Dash Hawk I found out today. First, I live in LV and attend the SEMA show each year. I was at the MSD booth today, and was advised that MSD will not sell the Dash Hawk after 12/31/09.

Some of you know that the Dash Hawk was made by Edge Products. So happens Edge is across the aisle from MSD. I spoke to them and they still sell the Dash Hawk under their product name "Insight". It is the same as the Dash Hawk according to MSD. The Insight is the same price as the Dash Hawk too.

Edge has two new products with expanded screens, full color, touch screen, etc, that they use on other products. Edge advises that in the future (some time in 2010?) they will move the new displays to the Insight model.

In addtition, they will add some of the codes not in the present unit that is specific to certain manufacturers.

They confirm that no recent software development has occurred and expect that they will wait until they remodel the Insight unit. One point the Edge representative made was the new model most likely will cost more, and that if they determine that the market will not support (price) the upgrade, that could affect their plans.

At SEMA you hear lots of plans and such, but both the MSD and Edge representatives sound like they knew what they were talking about, for what it is worth.

It would be nice if they'd migrate some sort of existing software upgrade to 64-bit compatibility, and do one final update, or open source the software if they don't plan to support it.

What I was told is the software will need to be re-written, so I expect it does not support 64bit OS. As I stated, Edge was not sure if they would invest in future models IF the cost is a factor to the market. In other words, if they invest money to update the software and the device itself they will want more money.

I know several of the exhibitors with like products are good deal higher, starting at $500+ for a touch screen ODB2 reader.
