Hello all.

I'm currently looking at purchasing a Mzdspd6 and would like to know about any particular items/areas/things I should be looking for when going for a test drive and inspecting the car.

Never had an AWD vehicle before as well as a Turbo, so having one with both will be fun.

Thanks in advance,

D

Only thing I can really think off besides the normal things you inspect on a car when you're buying is that I would let the car idle for a while to see if it smokes, if it does it needs to be taken to a mazda dealer for repair.

Used car dealers

Thanks for the insight.

Looking at one at this dealer who bought it from an auction.

No service records. No manual/instruction booklet.

Nice looking car though = Black, with two tone white/black leather.
Fairly clean over all as it was detailed before it hit the showroom.
I gotta take it for a test drive.

It does have the 'smart key' thing, but looks like it was giving trouble as they have one of the two remotes taped up.

I'll post to tell how the test drive goes.

Thanks again,
D

Let us know what you think. Gotta love the two-tone interior, that's for sure.

As for the key, I can tell you that the spare key that tucks inside the card does have a tendency to pop out by itself after a few years usage. Perhaps that's why it was taped up.

What's the mileage and the asking price?

No service records . . . thats not a good thing.

Make sure when you start the car that it . . . starts within a couple seconds. On a cold start the rpms should be about 1800 and drop down to normal / steady 700 after a few minutes when the coolant temps normalize.

Make sure all the gears shift properly without having to muscle anything.

Along with what these folks have already mentioned, after you take it for a 10 minute test drive, get out and jump under the car. Smell for a burning plastic scent. If you do smell something odd, the clutch has been greatly abused. Check for uneven wear on the tires as well.

As always, make sure you get the Carfax, too.

What you will need to do:

1. Get the CARFAX (don't cop out on a few bucks)
2. Check under the driver wheel well for damages to the frame.
3. Open the hood and check for loose screws/missing screws (especially the plastic splash guard under the windshield)
4. Take the car onto the highway and go at least 70 mph constantly for 5 minutes to feel for engine irregularities. If it is a bumpy ride, chances are the rims are also bent.
5. Remember this is a Performance Car so anyone who had it before you HAS BEATEN ON IT to some degree. Do not be fooled or misled by any dealer who tells you it was babied or it's just like any other Mazda 6. If they do this, it means they know NOTHING about this car. In my 6 months researching before I got my MS6, 95% of all dealers who had an MS6 knew NOTHING about the car. I bought mine from a TOYOTA dealer and told the guy to spare me the details cause I knew everything about the car already. So, good thing you are on here.
6. Lastly, if there is damage--move on. Look elsewhere for an MS6 cause you'll spare yourself some grief and time in the future. Again, this is a PERFORMANCE car, so the unanticipated parts and labor will cause a hell lot more than regular cars (aka. you will end up paying more in the long run).

Good Luck.

take it to the mazda dealer to make 120 point inspection, they will tell you everything u wanna know.
Thats how i bought mine, they found a turbo cooling hose leaking and after i bought it it was replaced under warranty
Take care of your car and it will take care of you!

just joined the ms6 team

Great insight from all the other posts!!! I just bought an 07 with 7500 mi from a dealer and put that dealer through its paces. If you are buying from the dealer or a private seller, after you test drive the car, get out and tell him that you would like to switch spots and have him drive you around for a while (or bring an experienced friend). That is the best time to listen to the engine and transmission.

Ok, thoughts on purchasing a salvaged one and fixing her up.
Front left damage.
Needs:
bumper
hood
rad
1/4 panel left
left light housing
both airbags
The frame is not damaged.
Thanks to all for your input.
