MS3 Springs installed noise from front end. Is this normal??

I just installed MS3 springns and camber on my MS3 GT. Nice but every time I hit a bump---small--- I hear a loud clack, clank sound from the frnt.

This sound NEVER happened with the stock springs. Any comments or ideas what it could be?? Is this normal?? No rear end noise.

Other than that springs are stiffer but not harsh and only lowered about .5 of an inch or so. Do not want any lower. Car is low enough out of the box.

they are secure. Its just that clank clack clankity clank sound it makes every time you hit a bump. The stock springs never made that noise. I hate that noise. On smooth pavement no noise.

Check the bolt on the dammper shaft in the center of the upper mount, I've seen them come loose and it sounded like what your describing.

got back from the shop and look what they found

Just got back from the shop to have them check it out. They lifted the car and checked the springs in the front and they had play. YOu could turn the springs 1/4 turn or so left and right. I know that cant be normal.

The strut bearings were good and the nut and screw (for lack of a better word) were tightened all the way down.

The box did not contain any rubber spacers to comepensate for the height difference from the factory springs to the MS3 springs. I am baffled. Why that much motion? Every time I hit a bump the spring is sits "loose" and when the dampener (shock) springs up and down the springs "crash into it"

Simply put, the springs are too short for the setup. The usual fix is a "helper" spring. This is a light spring that compresses immediately when there is any pressure, but keeps some tension when the suspension is unloaded. The pic shows an example.

good idea!!! I was never told by the dealer that I would need helper springs. I would have bought them.

Where can I get them?? I am so upset at the dealer and my insaller. They should have known.

I have a MS3 spring and camber kit. In thst box there was NO helper springs.

Please tell me where I could get them. thanks

Something is wrong I haven't heard of any car needing helper springs w/the mazdaspeed kit or much less shorter than those springs. Are you sure they gave you the right springs?

YES, they are the correct springs. The ID number on the springs identifies them as the GRMS8ML25. This the part number for the MS3. I am stumped. I can guess the springs are defective. I need help. Thanks

Well, mine came with my coilovers. You have to get springs that are the same diameter as the main ones. I suggest going back to the place that sold you the springs and seeing if they can help out.

Sorry, the real name is "tender" springs. Here is a possible source:

bad end link

the installer broke the passenger side end link. It is that vertical metal rod that runs along the strut. how could you bust that end link and not notice???

It is very loose and wiggly. New one arrives friday for a saturday install.

My installer was eating nice, soft, warm poop. Caca de toro

Also, make sure your installer did not put the rear springs on the front and vice versa.

The Mazdaspeed springs are a direct bolt-on on the MS3. The rear springs are shorter than the front ones. Once you remove your old springs from the strut and re-install the Mazdaspeed ones, the strut should compress the Mazdaspeed spring slightly to keep it in tension. You should have no play!!

This is why I always find an excuse to go back and watch the work being done on my car. Pretend you came back to look at something else while the car was up and start talking cars with the mechanic and just sort of not leave until the car is done. Whatever it takes. I have seen so much crap done by mechanics who were either lazy or incompetent that no one gets the benefit of the doubt anymore. They screw stuff up and hope you won't notice until enough time has passed that they can claim it had nothing to do with the work they did. Mark my words, you don't break something like that and not know it. He just crossed his fingers and hoped to get away with it.

Yes, the springs were placed correctly. The thicker ones go in the front and the thinner coiled go in the rear. This installer is a friend of mine. Known him for years. Just cant believe he was so careless and he did not notice he damaged it?? wow, tough call

I noticed the endlinks were damaged but I cant visually examine the strut bearings. The noise is more prnounced on the psger. side because of the endlink but how do I know if it is not the endlink and the strut bearing? What sound will it make?

I have to wait until I repair the end link and then take it for a test drive and see if I hear any strange noises. Will keep you posted.

M L I thats just a thirsty toilet. Stanley this sucks and I feel bad for you It sounds like wrong part or incorrect install at first. Installer should take off and inspect all possibly affected parts. If you noticed endlink damage and your friend is reluctant to check out your s***, then it might be time to find someone else to help you install parts. If it isn't right now , it probably will get worse. You should be comfortable and secure when you drive. Sorry to be harsh peace

I have the MS Springs and have had them on for a while. You don't need a helper spring or anything else. It should be a direct replacement. You may want to contact your supplier and get a replacement as a defective part.

MS Springs and camber plates

Hi,

I have had my MS spings and camber plates installed for 8 months - maybe 8,000 miles and I have to say they are very nice. I wanted a progresive spring but one that did not lower the car more than one inch. I had a Miata that was super low and hated speed bumps with a passion. To my knowledge most other spring dump the car more than an inch or 25mm so they were out of the question.

As for the ride - it's not stiff but it is firmer than stock, it goes around a track just fine with a little swaying but I still have the stock swaybars on it. I might change those next but for the $400 (springs) it is nice. The coilovers were a little pricey and when I did mine I could not find any reviews of them. I measured the car before and after - it was about a 1" drop in front and maybe 5/8" to 3/4" in the rear.

Cheers!

Peter
