Ms3 Mpg

I've only had mine for a couple weeks now and am I bit disappointed with my 20.9 avg. Especially considering I'm drivin it like an old lady.

I'm hopin the Injen CAI I've yet to install will make a difference.

So for those with a trip computer... what's everyone averaging?

21.6

i'd like to say mine improved after installing the mscai, but i can't say for sure because up until then it was hot as a mofo round these parts and i love my climate control. after the install the weather mellowed out and i used the vents in the morning and windows down in the afternoon, so i saw an improvement of about 2mpg

that and it's hard not to want to hear that nice intake woosh

23.55 mpg
Average over ~16,100 miles
  • occasional aggressive driving
  • over speed limit highway speeds when possible
  • infrequent over city speed limit / stoplight drags
  • mainly crappy Chicagoland traffic
  • roughly 50/50 city/highway
29.19 best tankful, all highway, 2 adults 2 kids, max 70mph, a/c on
18.99 worst tankful

average 0.5 mpg improvement since CAI (7800 miles)

all corksport tbe and short ram intake boost cut killer fuel pump upgrade i step colder plugs drive it perty hard at times .. i alwies fill it up on a quarter of a tank left usualey 270miles to 3/4 of a tank free way dident matter stayed the same but with the upgrades on the free way i get about 295 on 3/4 of a tank but about the same 270 around town ,windey road over the mountain to home huge power gains cs parts

Typical MPG..How do you all fair with your MS3's

I drive mostly stop and go for each tank. 1 tank of gas lasts me almost 3 weeks. For some reason I get 18-20 MPG...I was hoping this thing would at least get 20-22. I have 4200 miles on the car right now. I shift at 2500 and cruise at 2k rpms...Im seriously in 4th gear at 25-30 mph. I dont get it...I think the 18X8.5 Rota rims and 235/40 tires hurt me more than I thought. I also never had stock MS3 rims to compare...I doubt Arizona has winter mix gas but if they do this could be another reason.

I bet if I drove 30 miles to work one way and back I would probably see 23-25 MPG's...

Hmmm the most Ive ever seen out of a tank of gas was around the 370-385 area I think. And that was all highway driving! The worst I ever got I think was around the 190 area... but that was when I first bought it and was using 87 octane! Quickly learned the car needed 92+ octane.. switched and afterwards it seemed like I got more and more and more MPG than before. I average around 260-280 a tank most the time, all city.. stop and go traffic! I dont think the 235/40 would matter much cause thats what I had on my car... but I had 17"s not 18's. Hope that helps!

I've tracked my mileage almost from Day 1 on fuelly.com. I include notes about A/C usage, city/highway driving proportions, etc.

I rarely do a lot of stop & go city driving. My daily commute is about 50-55 miles round trip and that's mostly interstate. Maybe 10-15 miles on surface roads. Mods are listed in sig. My driving style is probably just a tiny bit more aggressive than the average driver out there. I don't play Speed Racer every time I get behind the wheel, but I'm not afraid to use the car's power.

Pretty sure the only time I dipped below 20mpg was during a tank I spent driving in the mountains of NC (Deal's Gap/Tail of the Dragon, Cherohala Skyway, Blue Ridge Pkwy).

I just started a Fuelly account last month. I figure this will help me see my trends easier than building an excel spread sheet. yup 2 whole fill ups...I'll drive like a granny again this month and see if it improves at all.

Using the tripometer divided by the number of gallons pumped method, I average 23-24 mpg during my weekly commute in stop and go traffic. If there's a road trip mixed in with city driving, then it bumps up to 26-28 usually. Going on a road trip in a few weeks from Tallahassee to Nashville. We'll see how she does with a tank of gas that's all highway driving.

try shifting at 2500 rpm's, I drive 50/50 for City and HWY and I always get 27.XX on every fill up, getting ~ 350miles on a single tank, with a full TBE on factory/ stock tune. My dash says comsumer AVG. MPG 26.9

I get between 25.5 and 29.7 according to the computer. Depends on how I feel like driving, and if I use it for trips to the mall and stuff, or just to work and back (short trip, 3 miles). On long highway trips, like where I'm going 60+mph on flat roads with the cruise set for hours on end (I-80 in PA), I get 34mpg average.

I use Premium Hess or Valero gas, sometimes Shell (when I can get it).

As has been said, the computer is too optimistic. Miles driven/gallons used is the only way to accurately determine mileage. On my last fill up, I got 280 miles on 3/4 of a tank. That's a pinch better than normal. The cooler weather may be helping there.

I picked up 2-3 mpg with the MS CAI.
More boost and mods I was still getting 25-29 combined mpg on every tank of fuel (using math, not the computer)

well than theres something wrong...my 400 hp mustang gets 17-19 mpg cruising with no boost.

I have an appointment at my local dealer tomorrow for an early 5k service...ask some questions.

Well before my tune i usually got 23-24mpg but now with my tune it gone down to 21-22mpg so it not so bad and also i use my accufuel app in my iphone to monitor the mpg and the cobb ap as well
(drinks)

the reason why i cant get anything higher is because it so much fun begin in boost after a tune

I have been keeping track of my mileage closely for the past 6 months. I live in Austin, TX and drive about 30% city/ 70% highway consistently. Over the past 7k miles I have gotten between 20-22 miles/gallon. I've never gotten more or less than that but haven't taken any pure highway trips yet. I always use 93 octane.

I installed the Mazda CAI 3k miles ago but that hasn't changed the miles/gallon at all. It has made me love the turbo that much more.

I would describe my driving as definitely "spirited". I probably do a full throttle boost to 70 mph 1-2x per tank in addition to hammering on it whenever I have a chance. However, I never drive or 75 mph for fear of a speeding ticket.

I'm a bit dissapointed by the MPG, but hey I didn't buy this car to be a econobox. I bought it to have a SUPER fast hot hatch. It's my dream car and honestly, what more could you ask for at $20k?
