MS3: Hesitation at 5200 RPMs

I just watched "Video of my MS3" byDavidB, and noticed that he has a hesitation at about 5200 RPMs. I have the same thing, but it seems to only happen for me in 3rd gear. 1st and 2nd gears go by too fast, I guess. I haven't really tested 4th.

Has anyone else noticed this? I have had the recall/flash done several thousand miles ago.

Not me...

BTW... there was no recall / flash that would have directly affected this anyway. There have only been 2 recalls for the MS3. One was for the motor mount issue, and the other was for the all weather floor mats.

Back in October, wasn't there one to recalibrate the PCM regarding the variable swirl shutter valve control along with a replacement actuator, and another for Short Term Fuel Trim feedback in the PCM? Maybe it was just a TSB.

yea, some guys got the valve replaced. i got the emissions flash or w/e too. the valve pplied toe all 2.3 turbo cars tho not jsut the ms3. my sisters cx7- and forum members with ms3's got this service recall. they actually replaced her valve

Mine seems to stumble a bit at 3000rpm or so while at partial throttle, but I haven't had any recalls done (previous owner was lazy)...hopefully it'll be fixed after it goes in tomorrow for some catch-up.

The butterfly/swirl valve is a TSB. TSBs are merely guidelines on known problems and how to easily remedy them.

My local dealer is taking care of that swirl valve TSB for free for me.

Mandatory recalls are generally safety related.

Yep.... there were three TSBs for the 2007 MS3. The swirl valve was one of them. The other two dealt with an electrical wiring issue and a front crankshaft bolt. I think it is important to point out that there have been ZERO engine remaps or flashes that effect A/F ratios or any other performance related topic. They simply have to do a re-flash after the swirl valve is fixed to reset the computer. It isn't doing anything special.

what is the front crank shaft bolt one? on that site, for 2008 i saw it but it doesn't have details; my car was built in late november of 07 and delivered the first week in january this year.

I noticed that as well. What you can do is call your Mazda dealer and they can look it up for you. (I did that before with the swirl value issue.)

They should be able to look it up with one or both of the following:

NHTSA Item Number: 10023313
Service Bulletin #: 0102206

thx.

it's for a retainer that is needed when removing and re-installing the front crankshaft bolt. it's only for when service is performed using that part, so no biggie!

Well the TSBs are internal documents so I don't think they legally have to release them to you. Find someone with access to the latest ALLDATA or whatever it's called.

May not have been a recall, but there is a TSB on the hesitation at high rpm.
I had my car in for this reason 6-8 months ago and it cleared right up. Part of the 'fix' was a reflash on the ecu.

I don't notice any stumbling when I drive it....I have a 2008. I'm still waiting for the shop to email my dyno sheet and I don't think there was any stumble or dip around 5200rpm....
