Does any one know if the honeycomb shapes on the ms3 shroud have a function? What are they for? Can they just be cut out?

to protect the fins from larger objects

+1

I opened mine up the other day to find leaves jammed all up in the ducting.

The fins are very fragile and easily bent. Go pop open the hood on a WRX/STi with a few miles on it and look at all the bent fins they have. Those cars dont have anything to trap large objects like that.

The more deformed the fins are and the harder it is for air to move through the IC and cooling ability is reduced.

I would also agree.

For a while I have considered starting a post: What has your MS3 eaten today?

But seriously, both statements before are correct. I have found anything from leaves to rocks on top of my IC cover. But, if you dont really care about that then I would say go ahead and cut it off, you can always get a BIGGER one!

Black Shroud

I was just curious because wrx's dont have any protection. I thought well why wouldnt they put any kind of protection on their IC? Since the WRX is AWD people are more likely to go on dirt/gravel/ covered roads=bent IC fins.

They have kept really big bears out of my motor, so far.

07 cb gt, sirrius, no nav, injen cai, arctic aplines on steelies, homebrewed seat heaters and mbc, blah, blah, blah... no way that thing is that fast. (burnout)(burnout)

Space and cost would be my guess...

Are you nuts? People with Land Rovers and Hummers don't even go off road; the average WRX owner is probably 25-35, male, and very proud of their car. I doubt they'd be chugging down gravel roads specifically because they have AWD; it's just a notch in their hat and an item on the 'faster/better' than other cars in that class list.

Not attacking you, just commenting for humor and such.

It's cool BlueMicaR, I am nuts LoL. I had an 07 2.5i impreaza wagon that i used to take up to Northern CAli 'Mt. Shasta area' with my buddy. There are some pretty sick country back roads up there, let me tell you that subbie hauled ass down those roads even without a turbo(alright). I know if i had a wrx i especially would take it down dirt and gravel roads. And another thing dont even get me started on hummers(angel).

-I traded the 2.5i impreza wagon for my Cosmic Blue ms3-
