MS3 and regular 3 OEM shocks/struts?

I have a buddy who's looking for some speed 3 suspension accessories for his regular 3 hatch. I happen to have the stock springs from my S3 I'm willing to part with them to help him out. I know the spring rates are different, but are the OEM struts/shocks the same between the two vehicles?

OEM Struts are crap, he should skip them and get something decent.
He wont get much of a drop with the speed springs because less weight on higher spring rate..... so long as he knows he wont be as low as a speed3 with those springs he wont be disappointed.
But please tell him to put some decent shocks on there, Konis or Bilsteins.
The OEM speed shocks (1st gen) are worse than crap and you couldn't pay me to put them back on.

if money is the issue than the MS3 shocks and struts on an MZ3 will be an improvement. But only a very very very small improvement. So unless he is getting them for dirt cheap or free, its worth getting something else as others have said.
