Is the mpi considered a standalone?

no it's considered a piggy back but it works better then a ssafc imo. How this is setup you don't touch the stock injectors so you retain the driveability of a stock car. You add fuel with the secondary injectors. This is the only piggy back for the msp to my knoweldge that can both retard and advance your timing. That is great for a built motor.
