Just calculated my MPG Average for 2,614 miles. 20.42mpg with a SD of 0.74 I did not measure fuel consumption for the first 3 tanks during initial break-in period. This for a FWD CX7 T driven 95% in a suburban setting (AC @ 99%) with an occasional 15 mile drive. Not great but, not to bad for a 3700 pound 244 HP vehicle.

Just clicked over 5000 miles today. Still getting 12-15 mpg. Gas type doesn't matter (mid, high).

wow, that's not good! i was looking into a cx7 for my wife...she thinks the explorers mileage is bad and we get 18-21, on average

it has to do with the break in period. My 3 got terrible gas mileage for the first 3000 miles. Now it has 24000 miles and i get 31-32 mpg every tank.

I'm sure the low milage is still from the urge to romp on it.

My P5-T is capable of 25+mpg but I usually see about 12mpg due mostly no freeway driving local in town stop-n-GO!!(burnout)

Consistently 19 MPG with 100% city driving. 25-28 on the HWY depending on speed and traffic.

I was getting about 14 up to about 4000 miles. Now that mine has 8000 miles, mileage is much better at about 19. Still seems odd that it needs so many miles to break in.

I did not check my mileage for the first 3-4 tanks of gas or about 700 ?miles. I have noticed no increse in fuel mileage from about 1000 miles to now at 3400. I did seat the piston rings using some medium power throttle runs from about 2000 to 3500 rpm 5 or 6 times. I of course let the engine cruise easy for about 10 minutes between runs. Maybe I seated the rings abit earler.

I think it is the build week of the car. Mine is an earlier serial number (October 2006). Maybe some of the newer ones have revisions to the engine build.

Mine continued to get better through about 3-4,000 miles.

I've found the distance you travel makes a big difference in my mileage though. If I average shorter trips of 5-10 miles each on a tank, I get like 15-16 mpg. If I average longer 20-25 mile trips (even with city driving mixed in), I get closer to 19-20 mpg. The highest mileage I've gotten was a day trip that we went on this summer; round trip was about 200 highway miles and we were at about half a tank when we got home. That was doing 80-90 the whole way with two others in the car and A/C 100% of the time.

I first noticed because my wife would only get about 220 - 230 miles on a tank. At first I thought "what the hell is she doing when she drives my car?", but it's just that she doesn't typically travel as far as I do on a daily basis. Worked from home a couple of days and found the same thing when I was driving.

19 city dont believe it

It's quite possible if you drive properly.

Personally I don't care too much about fuel economy, so I only get 15-17 mpg usually. If I drove a little less aggressive and didn't use the a/c all the time I'd probably get over 20 mpg in the city.

19 city dont believe it

Don't care what you believe.

19 MPG 100% city consistently all summer and I get on the gas as much as anyone else on the board. Mileage seems to gets better with every mile, sitting at 15,000 miles now. Last summer I got 17-18.

I just crossed the 600 mile mark today and have been getting 15mpg so far with about 60/40 city/hwy driving and taking it pretty easy on the car since i was in the break in period. I hope it gets better!

only 1k miles

I just got my cx7 about 3 weeks ago has about 1000 miles on it I got about 19 the first tank useing only "D" not too bad, but then drove a week useing only the autostick shifting around 3500 to 4k rpm avg and got around 20.5... getting better... changed my air filter to a K&N last week and drove with the autostick got 22.5.. much better, saved me almost 10 dollars and I filled up every time at the same miles 315 to 320 miles it just kept getting cheaper ... hope this helps some of you 15mpg people

mostly to and from work about a 13 mile each way nothing too long no real highway miles really

K&N filter is 33-2279 takes 2 min well worth the 40$

Let's face it, gas mileage for the cx-7 sucks. I agree with the previous member, if I drive a short distance like 6-12 miles a day, the gas mileage seems to be not as good as when I would take a 25-30mile trip on the freeway. Stop and go driving makes a HUGE difference in gas mileage. Athough the acceleration is very nice, the needle on the gas gauge goes down pretty quick!:) I think it's a great cruiser car.

My best mileage occurs when I press and hold the accelerator and allow the AT to shift at 2100-2400 rpm. That is my driving style for stop and go. If I run up to speed and then ease off then mileage goes down. In addition: the AT has a "learning curve" so if you continue to drive aggressively then the shift pattern will change to a more aggressive profile i.e. more gas and higher rpm shifts. If on the other hand you drive generally easier the the AT will shift at a slightly lower rpm. You of course can over ride the shift pattern at any time. Anyway that is how I achieved my 20 + mpg over several thousand miles and it does not require one to drive like a grandpa or grandma.
