MPG Average

First fillup. 28.6mpg doing the math. Not bad. Car has 360 miles on it so engine hasn't been "broken in" and average temps here over the last week (Chicago) have been single digits to low teens. So far this is way better than the 17.4 i was averaging with the previous SUV.

I'm averaging 28-29 mpg with my CX5 touring in light suburban driving. Now at ~ 4,400 miles but, I noticed very little improvment after the first 2-3 tank fulls. Ed

Weather issues aside, you'll be amazed at how consistent the CX-5 is in the MPG dept. My avg dash readout hovers just below the 30 mark (here in temperate N. Calif.) with mostly city driving. When I take the time to do the math, that's pretty close to accurate (maybe one mpg too high at the worst).

Ed: be interesting to see if you experience a spike in mileage after your first service as I and others here have. It may have been somewhat of an illusion, but it took me by surprise and appeared to be real. I attribute it to 5k of break in miles and a switch (or does Mazda use super-moly oil for the factory fill?) to moly oil for its first service.

I had my first service ~ 3,500? miles and noticed no spike in mileage. Any increase was buried in the day to day driving variability. My dealer used Castrol 0w20 blend for my oil change. Maybe I'd notice a spike if I bought the Mazda Moly oil?

Maybe; plus, your engine may still have some "loosening up' to do.

Now that I got all my freebie oil changes out of the way, I do my own (At a DIY auto shop' I am not comfortable with limited space under a jacked car for something like that). Moly is what I use. Castrol is slightly cheaper and always has coupons so it's more appealing to the dealership and customer. My avg mpg went up by one when I used moly vs my previous 3 or 4 oil changes that were castrol. If I'm getting 1mpg probably getting better lube too worth it to me.

My car has averaged a little over 30 mpg for eight months, now if i could download
my spread sheet it would be interesting.

Nice chart ^. What driving conditions (city, freeway, etc.)?

We did have 2 trips a total of about 1900 mi and the rest is
short runs around town. I am really pleased with the millage saying
we have all short runs.

You people suck! 22 city and 26 hwy is what I'm getting.

Also, ya'all need to post up what you are actually driving so we can make proper comparisons!
IE: 2.0 vs 2.5,,, FWD vs AWD

I'm 2.5 and AWD

Surfsup, what kind of car is yours? Your getting great mileage!!

Is your other car in your sig an '07 Mazdaspeed6.
I've got a silver speed6 also.

Yeah my wife's 2.5 AWD CX-5 got as low as 22mpg in the winter too.
But on average I've been getting 24/25mpg, local driving(15 mile, 30 min trips) in the winter.

My car is a 2014 CX5 GT with FWD.
This is the first winter i have owned it
and cold weather is working on the mileage.

Yes it is! Sadly I sold it though,,,, got freaked out with all the blown motor issues (unfounded as it's still running strong!)

Man I'm feeling ripped off! I'm driving gentle as can be and still only hit 16-18 mpg in the city (4 mile, 20 min trips). Been really disappointed in the city mileage. Highway I can manage 30 easily so long as I keep it below 70 mph. I've been attributing it to the 2.5 AWD but just seems pretty low to me (and that's the trip computer giving me that! It's probably lower if I calculate myself).

Not necessarily. I've seen my trip computer average readout low just as many times as I've seen it high. Do the math and see what you get for a couple of tankfuls. That said, those short trips (especially in cold weather?) will kill your mileage.

Worries me too. Going to get the '15 WRX to replace it. It only has 76k miles though & ~20k on the new suspension parts (AutoExe springs & Billstein HDs)

My last tank i averaged 33.199 mpg calulated in a 2.0 M6, in a mixture of 40% city and 60% smaller local highway driving on sunoco 87. The tank before that 32.89 MPG with walmart/murphey 87. Approx 2200 miles on my 2014 cx-5. I am going to use mazda moly with oem filter and crush washer at 5k. Mostly flat around here.

If you look at reply #9 My avg gas is figured by hand and the trip computer
is turned back every time i fill up, most of the time they are different, but i averaged
them out at the end of the year and both were the same. 30.8
