MP5 vs BMW M-Coupe

I agree it's a great car. I've driven one and it's just an absolute blast to drive. If someone wanted to give me one, I'd sure as hell take it.

But the start of this thread was "how can I make the P5 look more like the M Coupe". If the M Coupe looked like it does, but had the engine and handling of the P5, nobody would want it. It's just not a good looking car. It's only attractive because of the performance. Like and Evo or an STi.

Well obviously it has tons of advantages over the P5 - acceleration, handling, build quality, etc etc etc. But the fact that it looks like a clown shoe isn't really an advantage. Unless you are into that kind of thing.

Why bother!! Just save your money and go buy a Z3 Coupe. I've seen them for under 20k. Its funny some many people dislike this car but they need to go drive one. Its handling is so awesome.

my mother has a silver Z3, and it is a blast to drive, the Mcoupe looks good, but I do prefer the roadster... but I do want the "m" package

Have to jump in on this one... you either love or hate the styling (I love it ). Big go-kart would be one thing that comes to mind.

I'm on the verge of buying a P5 for my daily driver (if I can get a dealer to kick in some of thier "marketing assistance" cash).
I was getting some input from fellow Coupe drivers on a BMW forum and almost all of them rave about the MP5, how great it handles, fun car, etc. A few of them also own them, so there must be a similar attraction here.

BUT it's comparing apples to oranges for performance etc.
99-2000 M Coupe - 240HP (under-rated by BMW)
01-02 M Coupe - 313HP. They have the M3 engines with Motorsport suspension.
Hopefully, I'll have my P5 by the end of the year.....

Funny thing is...

I traded my '00 Black M Coupe in when I bought my '03 P5. These cars are in very different worlds. The Coupe was a world class sports car. The P5 is a great car for its intended market. I like being able to get 4 people in it, haul lots of stuff, get 25+ MPG and not cost an arm and a leg for replacement parts. I do miss the power, handling and stopping of the Coupe but for an everyday driver, I like my P5 better. As a play car, the Coupe would win hands down. Also liked cutting my payments in half.

Just one opinion from someone who owned both.

Interesting P5Mike...having owned both. I personally love the coupes, whether M or not (but of course preferring the M) - of course, for the money I'd hafta drive a lot of stuff first before deciding...but then, I'm partial to German class, substance and styling.

As for the original post, if you want to look more like a German car, remember one word as far as styling: CLEAN. A lot of Japanese cars are getting there (love the styling of my MSP, this after owning 5 different VW's, and the new Acura TL comes to mind), but most imo are still not as stylish or classy as a German ride...

I would like to start to say that I would trade-in my P5 and my little sister for an M-Coupe class of a car...

BUT - does it not remind anyone else of the ambiguously-gay duo car from SNL? the car itself is amazing but the styling is not suited to my taste...

as far as making the cars more similar... I can only think that lowering it, rims, z3 fenders and some magic-fairy dust would help but still not quite make it.

I'm with him.. seeing one in person makes me want one soooo bad.. it has TONS of advantages over the P5.

it better have tons of advantages seeing how your paying a shitload of money for it.

for $11,200 ( which is what i paid for my 02' p5 ) it doesnt get any better. P5 looks so much better then any car in its class.

ive always thought the 95-99 eclipse's had the meanest looking body when fixed up properly. they look sleek and mean. too bad they weight more then a whale. gs-t's and gsx's still haul ass though.
