My original driver's side of headlight socket melted, and wires are burnt out.
so good friend zmzmp5 fixed it with custom job. but it didn't last long. I don't know why. bulbs are in perfect condition though( sylvania cool blue)
so,I got a copy of the 2003 official collision&estimating reference guide from bombero69 to find out parts number.
unfortunely, they didn't have parts number for headlight socket with harnesses.
I could only found black round shape plastic(B28V-51-0A3) that between connects bulb and headlight socket.
anyway, I have called local mazda dealer BUT, they told me they have to see the problems to see what parts are need to be replaced.
so, my question is does anyone know where I can get (white)headlight socket to replace it? or is there a universal headlight socket?

so your bulbs melted the sockets ??!!
I used to have noyka bulbs, that bulbs melted the my white headlight socket along with wires.
any suggestions?

i had the same thing happen in my ride...in fact it was the same side... i was running apc bulbs and they melted so bad that the lense fogged up white...i got the dealer to change the lense for free but the wires were not covered....and you can not just replace the plug....the whole harness has to be changed at the cost of $1600..go to your local honda dealer and by a headlights socket and pigtail wires for any year civic and spice it on...total fix for a total cost of $5....

Guess this is why my salesman told me, "No matter what you do, don't change headlight bulbs, they will melt the housing." Apparently it had happened a few times before. Sucks.

slamed02, any pics of you car??

THank you so much for sharing your info.
I will go ahead and do that. but 1600 for whole harnesses?
which year of honda civic headlight socket did you get?
and I 'm really sorry but what's pigtail wires?;)

i think it was a 94 civic headlight plug....they sell the plastic plug with no wires installed and you have to get the pigtail wires for the plug...basicly the pins in the socket...the parts guy should know what you mean....it's about 6 in of wire with the metal connector on the end that you put in the plastic plug...you should only need 2 wires not 3....since we use h7 not h4

Hey!

What the hell happened now? What do you mean "didn't last". Coincidentally, my Sylvania driver side light went out less than a week ago. The same harness replacement I did to your car still is good on mine. The bulb looked fine, bought a new one, replaced it, all is good.

Soooooo...call me on my cell and/or Email me Bijou!

hey i know this is a super old thread, but my passenger side just went out, i was using nokya bulbs i think. how did the replacing of the harness go? and also, wut wattage should the bulbs we use be? thanks - chris

don't go with noyka !!! just go with silverstar or cool blue 55watt
and get heavy duty H4 headlight socket from pepboy

ohh okay, thanks a lot, did u change both sides with the heavy duty? or just one side? thanks again - chris

maybe u should check the watts for the bulbs, if they are not the same watt for standard bulbs they will infact melt ur wire harness!!!

there's one other little thing that could make a difference...
the fit of the socket onto the prongs of the bulb has to be tight. i fried two sets of sockets before we (the dealer's parts guy and I) finally figured out that little bit. if they're not tight, there's a little arcing that starts as the bulb basically "rattles around" in there and starts to melt things.

fyi: i was using Giantlight Ultra White bulbs that the parts guy was trying out. after going through three pairs we gave up on them. since he sold them to me he covered the cost of the replacement parts (bulbs and sockets). now it's nothing but sylvania for him and me.

just my .02

I was frying bulbs left and right too, thank god I did not toast my wires, and decided to remove the black rubber housing around the bulb base. The rubber keeps heat in which can add to the bulb frying factor. I have not burnt out a bulb yet nor my wires for about six months now. Knock on wood (hitting my head). Pretty amazing considering those replacment bulbs are not very high quality. I may use the Pep Boys harness just to be careful.

hey, good0177, do uhave a problem with moisture or water getting near the bulb or something? i would think the rubber keeps out all the water or other crap that could get inside? sounds like a very good idea though - chris

I had the same thing happen only mine didn't melt all the way so i just ghetto rigged it into workin'.
