MP5 going on a road trip

I'm going on a road trip to Orlando, Florida from NYC in January. My MP5 has about 36k miles on it and a strange "vrrrrr" noise on the right front. I take it to the deal and they tell me it's nothing or it may be the tires. I'm going with either the Hankook Radial K106 or Kumho ASX. Also what else would I have to check out before my road trip.

At 36k miles, I'd probably replace the spark plugs with some NGK ZFR5F-11 or BKR5F-11 (about 9 dollars for the set), change your oil, check to see if your air filter is dirty, and make sure the car feels like it is properly aligned.

hey buddy, what date are you coming to orlando? because theres a state-wide mazda meet going on, on the 20th of jan. very close to orlando.

I just had the 30K check from a Mazda Dealer, but I'll change the coolant again.

I'm going to be there on 22nd. Damn I'm going to miss the meet.

Change the coolant?!?!?!? at 36k miles?

I've never done anything but put gas in my car and check my tire pressure before road trips. You guys must love spending money on unnecessary maintenance.

And some of us don't want to get stuck on the side of the road in the middle of nowhere. A little preparation goes along way.

plus it's like 6 dollars for a couple gallons of animal safe coolant :)

I just drained mine tonight.. I last flushed it MAYBE 2k miles ago, but I think less

According to the mazda maintenance schedule for standard driving, it is recommended that you inspect your cooling system at 30,000 miles and replace coolant or parts or whatever if necessary. I can think of few scenarios where cooling system parts or coolant will require replacement at 30,000 miles. It is not until 45,000 miles that it is recommended by mazda that the coolant be changed. I would wager you could go considerably longer with no ill effects. I live in a "warm" climate so i dont know what happens to old coolant in extreme cold though.

But car maintenence is a pretty good pass time :) , if youre feeling bored you could change the coolant, but its not really required.

have fun on your trip
