MP3 vs ES.20

Haha, my post was entirely out of sarcasm as far as the bitching part went. Unfortunately, you can't really tell when someone's being sarcastic on the board. I honestly don't care if the ES can keep up with me. I bought the MP3 because it's yellow and I wanted something not seen to often. I knew it wasn't the fastest thing on the market. If I wanted a fast yellow car, I would have bought an ITR. But then I'd have to worry about Triton and his LX beating me. :D Sorry, bad joke.

I don't doubt that an ES can beat an MP3 in a Drag race either. Sadly, stop light racing won't be a good way to guage the 2 cars. I'm willing to run a few times of course. But, I'm more down for a run at a Drag strip.

I guess we'll all have to meet up in Sactown one weekend and have a grudge match or something. I think that would be fun as hell. :D Anyone else interested. As for the Auto-Xing part, wheel guru or Carson would be much better at that then I am since they both frequent the events. The only way we're going to be able to tell is if people actually get out there and race. I'm in if others are, but lets also look into a legal way in the near future if possible. No one wants to get their license stripped. :(

I'll admit to one thing though, I like how we've managed to keep this post free of flaming. ;) Everyone is getting their .02 cents in and not getting butthurt about other peoples opinions. :)

Yeah, the lack of flaming is what has kept me hear. Good folks, honest opinions and no B.S.

This is a great site, and being in the I.T. field I can appreciate the personal time it takes to keep someting like this going. To those that have kept this thing going....thanks.

As for the MP3 being the fastest, best handling...and getting my "feelings hurt"....nahh, I could care less.

Myself, and my woman are about to buy our first house. I wanted a car that was different, rare, good looking etc. But, I also wanted something that was damn good on gas, and easy on insurance without sacrificing performance too much. I'm happy to say that the mp3 has met all my expectations, and my wallet still has some money left in it for the house.

As good as it looks, and handles, I'm still finding myself amazed of stereo that came with it as stock equipment. Sure, I could've bought a mustang, or something with more power, but they wouldn't fit my needs right now, whereas the MP3 does.

Faster then something else....I don't really care, I love my car.

P.S. Like I'd ever buy a mustang... : )

i agree with both of u guys "APEXistud" 'n' "newf" i think that this is a good site should kept it up
(but then again there will be someone always trying to be the best )
i hope i will see u friday anyways :)

Robert, no prob on the Tach light :) ... I wouldnt want a s*** light either .. heh .. By the way how much did you pay for the tach and where did you get it.. An auto parts store ( Pep boys I believe ) had a Autometer ( at least it was "auto" sumpthin but am pretty sure it was autometer )tach that had a Carbon face and a amber colored light. It was about 5-6 inches round. They wanted $139. Is that a decent price due to I havent priced any, and would like to get one in the future.

Yeah, forums that denigrate into yelling matches are not the place for me either.

Basically, my view is that the chassis is the biggest strength of the new Protege. The MP3 parts help with reducing body roll, but that was the only real difference I felt between an MP3 and a P5 w/ better tires. A regular P5 with stock rubber did not have nearly the same level of grip or feedback.

Hopefully this forum can continue to grow and still maintain the community feel.

ES 2.0s are slower. Do some research. I just looked it up and ES's run 9's 0-60. We run mid 8's.

And to whoever said "10hp doesn't make up for 200lbs"...first of all, 10hp WOULD make up for 200lbs, and the actual weight difference is about 100lbs anyway. The general equation i hear is that for every extra 40lbs you have, that's an extra HP lost. So even 200lbs would be 5hp.

BUT, all of this depends on the driver. Can a ES 2.0 beat an mp3? Sure. Can a ES 2.0 beat a ferrari? Sure...it's just not bloody LIKELY! The car is only as fast as the nut behind the wheel. Hehe.

I don't know kooldino i looked up edmunds.com and car and driver and it said that the 99-00 Protege ES, were running less than a prizm LSi and chevy cavalier Se and there running 8.7-8.9sec 0-60mph. I know that edmunds.com said it competes with the 2dr Civic Ex and the Neon running 0-60mph in 8.4sec. But i also know that it weighed 2537lbs and the MP3 is running 8.2-8.5sec 0-60mph weighed at 2725lbs.

hey sorry for answering so late but to answer ur ? . i got my "shift lite " for 180.99 at kragen #3911 ,hey but the bad part u have to buy a is a little box so it make it work but it cost about 50 dollars .

Two words......SLALOM TEST, SLALOM TEST, SLALOM TEST, SLALOM TEST MP3 68.5 mph

A ES protege does handle well it is the best handling car in its class......But all the goodies on the mp3.....The ES cant hang.....Two sway bars and a strut bar, coil over, shocks, springs, lowered, Sorry ES in the handling department...maybe quicker, not what i have read, but would believe it.....

I agree,,,the mp3 is rare 1500.....It will keep its value.......since they wont be made again.........Just like a type R.....mp3 may be slow but after some upgrades......It will hang with some fast rides.......

Actually, I don't own a Protege. Two of my buddies have P5s and another guy I know has an MP3.

But if you come up to Ottawa, I'll hand your ass to you in my 2001 M3 or my 2001 Miata, your choice...

If you actually have an M3, you would be a disgrace if you even wasted your time on an MP3. I said I'd hand your ass to you in your P5 or Pro ES.

As far as I'm concerned, there never was an argument...</STRONG>

Wow, I can't believe you're actually using a G-TECH Pro in this debate. Those are not accurate measuring tools. Now the APEXi RSM-GP is a better measuring tool. But whatever the case the MP3 is rated as being faster by just about every car review I can think of. After reading this entire post, it's starting to become a little silly. Reminds me of some of the Subaru 2.5RS owners saying that they are faster than the WRX because they are 350 lbs lighter.

Let's face it guys, the ES is a great car but..........the MP3 is better, hands down.

I'm gonna have to go with Apexi on one of his earlier posts in this topic. Dragging is nice, but it's not what an MP3 does. Gimme an autocross course, or something similar, vs. a stock anything, and I'm not afraid, even with my 3 squirell(sp?) power MP3. Yesterday I laid waste to a camaro with hoosier racing slicks and a contour svt. I've never even autox'ed before! The car is great and being the loose nut behind the steering wheel is even more fun!
BTW, has anyone mentioned yet that this site kicks ass? Oddly enough, even though I'm a straight stock runner, I have learned a TON from this place. And the great story-telling on here keeps me laughing all day. Keep up the great work guys!
