MP3 player (aux) in Kenwood deck (MP919)

I've got a problem and I'm wondering if anyone else has run into it and gotten around it. I'm trying to hook up an MP3 player to my Kenwood deck. I've got the conversion cable already and it's hooked up alright, but I can't get the deck to go to AUX mode when I hit the SRC button. I've tried every menu that I know about, and I've tried resetting the thing, but nothing seems to work.
If anyone's got any suggestions, please let me know. I just emailed kenwood about it, and if they give me anything solid I'll post that.
thanks

I've got a Kenwood: CA-C1AUX Auxilliary input cable...
Turns the CD changer input into an rca input, which I'm connecting to with a headphone to rca Y adapter.
I know that there's a link to the crutchfield site somewhere in this forum, and it says that that's the part that I need for that stereo, but I can't find it.

wow 20 gigs worth? Holy over kill batman. One CD holds 700 megs, that's a ton of music right there. If you had a case that held 200 CD's, at 700 megs each thats 140000. That's not enough music? MAN!

Suggestion - Can you try the cable you have on someone elses deck?

yeah, it may be overkill, but I've got this 20Gig mp3 player that I figured would be no problem to hook up to my car stereo; and no burner to burn the mp3's onto disk.
I don't know anyone else w/ an MSP (or that Kenwood deck) that I can hook it up the same way that mine is.
Thanks for the suggestion though.

make sure your aux unit is on(ipod, jukebox, whatever youre using)...unless power is flowing thru the rca cables the deck will not offer you the choice to go into aux mode via the src button...

Avg. MP3 size approx. 5MB...20GB worth = by the time you find the song you want, you're already out of the car.

Thats the right part. Have you tried having the MP3 player actualy playing before selecting the aux source?

Also you can download the manual from kewnood.com check to be sure there is no aux input defeat or anything, although I doubt there is.

check and check....
I tried having everything hooked up and running...and I tried even going as far as resetting the deck bc I figured it might look for devices on reboot like a computer, but it's not that smart.
The MP3 player was playing songs as I was troubleshooting all this.
I also dl'ed the manual right from kenwood...but it's 47 pages of nothing. They only really go into the functions of the unit and don't say anything about any procedure for hooking up any auxilliary device to it. They just tell you to press SRC until it says AUX...
Does anyone have this option by default?
mine's just got CD, RADIO, and ALL OFF.
I wouldn't be surprised if it's broken...this is the second one that I've had in there, and I've had small problems ever since mazda installed it.
Yeah, 20 Gigs is a bunch of songs, but it's a video player too, so it's like having a dvd screen in my car.
let me know if anyone's got they're ipod or any external device hooked up the the stock kenwood stereo in they're MSP
Thanks

Not true. Mine is not connected to anything and offered the AUX option.

Still haven't gotten mine working, I pretty much gave up on it. Writing it off as this crappy deck is broken, and I'm never trusting kenwood with anything. They never replied to my email message that I sent them about this, while the guys at crutchfield were more than helpful. If you run into any problems, email them first.

Hey Kenwood finally got back to me after 3 months now. I'd pretty much given up on the whole project. They said that if you can't get it working with the reset button, then it's broken and needs to be taken in to an authorized kenwood dealer for service/replacement - in my case I'm hoping to bring it to anyone but my mazda dealer bc they're absolute morons and I'd rather do any of the work myself.
so if anyone else has similar problems with their deck, I suggest immediately bringing it somewhere (mine's been cutting out on bumps since they put it in as a replacement to the first one that messed up my sub).
And I honestly suggest replacing it with a more credible brandname in decks which I will definitely do if it's not warrantied.
I've always been biased but now I officially hate kenwood.
