I was reading MotorTrend today, on the road test results, they sat that:

MP3 2001
140hp
0-100 = 8.9
1/4 = 16.8

P5 2002
130hp
8.8
16.8

Corolla CE 2002
130hp
7.9
16.0

Civic LX 2002
115hp
8.3
16.4

How come MP3 are even slower than the Civics and Corolla??
WTF??

Somebody explain me

NO explain this how come I barely won a chevy truck when I raced it buy like half a car length explain that s***! MP3's are gettin slower and slower i think cuz' everything else is gettin faster and fasdter

i would also be interested in how the 10hp less p5 which is heavier than an mp3 managed ot be as fast and faster than the mp3........durp

I find it very very hard to believe that the 115 hp Civic is actually faster than either Mazda. I've beaten a ton of Civic LXs bone stock from red lights. Corollas I've raced (its amazing how many people rice these boxes up - TRD PoWeRz) pretty much just hang with me. As for the p5 being faster, I didn't think they were - doesn't the p5 have more torque though?

i have had my spirited runs with the new civics lx and theres no way thats true, also, the other day run into a yellow p5 around here and again, p5 being faster than my mp3 was not the case...

mags do make errors u know?

I beg to differ, Integra GSR is definantly faster. Sorry to burst your bubble. What everyone is failing to take into account here is drivers. All these car mags use PROFESSIONAL drivers. If you race someone who is a terrible driver (like me HAHA) Of course you will win

MP3 Reality

Face it....our cars may be one of the best looking cars out on the road today, but by no means is it the fastest. I raced a Corolla S and a Hyundai Accent, and believe me, they didnt beat me, but they were on my ass. I couldnt believe it. But the truth hurts. We got robbed.

Understand that thses tests vary alot too.. depends on driver and conditions, and not to mention how much a car company pays to get good results... and beleive me, they DO do this. ANd like like everyone else is saying too... our cars are not sports cars anyways, they are just very very very nice looking economy cars.

I'm not suprised that the MP3 has no power. I've known this for a while now and I knew this when I bought the car. Even during the test drive I was thinking...."damn my ex feels way better than this thing at higher RPMs." The one thing I will give the MP3 is it's low end torque. Providing I had lighter wheels, my MP3 would feel great off the line.

Here's what I say, "If you want a fast car fresh out of the box, don't buy a Protege ES, MP3, or P5." It's a known fact that the MP3 is one of the best handling car from the factory......."EVER" Just about magazine test review really griped about it lacking in power though.

yeah these cars arent very fast...that and we're plagued with a bad 1-2 shift, which probably increases 0-60 times by a whole lot.

Well that is 100% NOT true. What is true is that is it among the top 3 BEST handling. It might even be second but deff not the first. The BEST handling sports compact car is the Subara WRX hands down. Nothing can beat an AWD rally. The only car that is in the MP3s class is the Sentra V-spec.

 You must be blind or illiterate, I said "one of the best" not the best. Let's look at who agrees with me: SCC, Road & Track, Car & Driver, Motor Trend, Automobile Magazine pretty much every major national publication felt the same way. The MP3 was also included in Road & Tracks "Best Handling Car" shoot out. Need I say more about this.:p

Oh yeah, WRX is an awesome car, but it not the best handling car from the factory. On gravel yes, on pavement no. Definately no in stock form. My best friend owns a WRX Wagon and he agrees that it isn't the best handler. Think before you post, bro

Yeah "bro" i don't know about you but i have driven a lot in WRX they they do handle better then an MP3. Number two i guess imy eyes where drawn the the part where you said "EVER". That's mybad. But still i donno what your friend is smoking but the WRX does have better hadling then the MP3. Damn i'm not knocking the MP3. I OWN one. but i hate when people think the MP3 is THE BEST car out their. it handles great, but is slow as s***. that my opinion. but that can be helped out by a turbo so it's all good. =0)

I'd put money down on a stock MP3 over a stock WRX anyday in an auto cross event. I too have driven WRX's and can vouch for them not handling as well. Sure they feel solid because of the all-wheel drive, but the fact still remains that the MP3 will out handle the WRX stock for stock. One of the factors is the factory rubber on the WRX isn't all that great. Not trying to start a flame war here, but........I am right on this one. At a glance, the WRX looks as if it should handle better. But on paper and definately on a short closed course the MP3 does handle better. End of discussion

But, throw some sways, coilovers, wheel & tire package on the WRX, then the it should easily out handle the MP3. But then, you could throw a full coilover kit on the MP3 along with a limited slip, lighter wheels, stickier rubber and a thicker rear sway, then we have a really good battle on a short course.

Yeah, I've driven both (MP3 & WRX), and the MP3 definitely would win in the curves. As a matter of fact, I BEAT a WRX on the highway, on a curve. On the strait before the turn, he was faster though. I saw big_ben murder WRX's at an autocross event earlier this year in the novice class, and it was his first race! I'm with Apex on this one.

MY BEST FRIEND HAD A WRX NOTE I SAY HAD ONE DO YOU WANT TO KNOW WHY HE NO LONGER HAS IT HE TRIED TO KEEP UP WITH ME ON A CURVEY ROAD AND HE WRECKED SO AS FOR THAT CRAP ITS JUST THAT CRAP

well i really don't know when i was in a WRX it felt like it handles better then the MP3. i guess if i drove it would be diffrent but to me it felt better. oh well.

I dont know what you guys are talking about... I have smoked sentras, integras, SI, ex, lx, saturns, accords... trust me its the way you drive your car and how you shift. i even took out a a corvette once ...but we were in traffic i have to admitt the mp3s handle pretty good. All i have is a injen cai w/ this wierd filter that sounds like bov pretty nice trick people get scared..
and also my cousin is a mechanic and he said not every car has the same whp some are fster and some are slower.
I have also smoked 2 mp3s they couldnt believe it
