MP3 and ZX3

I just have a question, that might help me on getting my turbo manifold quicker, and easier. Is our engine in any way close to the engine in the ZX2, or ZX3. (Or a ZTECH engine) The guy that is helping me with my turbo, looked at my engine last night and he thinks it looks like it may be closely related to a Z-TECH engine. Does anyone know? If it is I could just get a turbo manifold that is made for a Z-TECH engine.:D

If not I will go for a custom made manifold:confused:

The Zetec and the FS-DE are in no way related. The entire engine is totally different no parts for it will work on the Protege. Sorry...for a turbo mani you will have to go custom right now.

You never really know untill you get a header from the ford engine and try to match it up with ours. It might only need new holes drilled in it. I doubt they would match, but there is a chance. Here is a cheap tip on how to do this. Go buy a exhaust manifold gasket for a ZX2 or 3, then take your manifold off and see what matches and what doesn't. Maybe you'll hit jackpot.

Or better yet....go to the parts store and have them get out the gasket for BOTH...and compare them right there at the counter. NO outlay of green that way. :D

Well, believe it or not, but the SVT Focus engine is a very close cousin to the FS-ZE. Ford & Mazda are corporate brothers which explains this. The intake manifold on the SVT has dual stage intake runners just like our MP3. I'm willing to be that it could fit our MP3 with almost no modification. I had the got to see the SVT motor at a car show not to long ago and I'm basing this off of looks, I think the intake manifold is mechanical match.

Just some food for though, maybe someone should get all the Protege boards together and have everyone email Jackson Racing and ask them to do some research into making a Supercharger for the 00-01 proteges. Seeing as how the only difference betweeen the 2.0 liter motors is timing and intake manifold. Seeing as how the intake manifolds are swapable I think having a blower would be the same. Anyone down to try to email Jackson Racing.

They are not the same

Jackson Racing has already responded and made it clear they will not be doing a Mazda 2.0 supercharger...and why should they?

I mean Mazda is moving to a 2.4 liter on us anyway...right?
So make a supercharger for a few cars in a tight 2 year window?
Now way jose...

The focus motor is not related at all. Mazda motor development is not related to Ford...oh wait the 3.0 in the MPV and Tribute is a Ford spec motor with no mods...hmmm...this is getting fishy...

First off why shouldn't they make a Supercharger for the 2.0. There are plenty of 2 liters out there and judging from this forum a lot of interest in one. they may change the motor to a 2.3 but there area ton of 2.0 out there.

Sorry guys doesnt match, I already tried this! Before I went custom I got both gaskets and matched them up with negative results:mad:

I must have missed it, but where did Jackson Racing publically make a statement saying that they wouldn't make a supercharger for the Mazda 2.0 Honestly, it's basic economics if you think about it. "Supply and Demand", If Jackson Racing sees that there is enough of a Demand where they can actually make a profit, they will Supply the goods to meet the Demand. Plain as day and night. But anyway, enough with the economics, where did you say you saw Jackson Racing say that they wouldn't make one? Or was it just word of mouth.

i don't think it was a public announcement, but i sent them a quick line about two months ago and they responded saying they niether had the time or interest (jackson racing doesn't have the interest) to develope a system for the protege's.

re:they are not the same

hey,

I know i'm new, but I thought I'd put my 2 cents worth in on this issue because I'm getting my p5 soon and I really want to tweek it hard (ie forced induction).
when I contacted jackson racing regarding the compatability of their focus supercharger on a protege I was told it's a no go.
Here is what I got as a reply -

The performance isn't what alot of people would like it to be. There is a high probability
that in a year from now, this supercharger system may actually exist, however, what
will happen(traditionally) is J / R will wait for the first year of the new model car sales
to come and go and watch not only those numbers, but the request numbers for
all aftermarket performance components which are received by them as well. The key
to success in making aftermarket parts is that the manufacturer of thevehicle will
commence with that model for 4 - 5 years and have increased sales growth along
the way. This obviously enables the aftermarket company to ' fit ' product to as
large a group of owners as possible. That car is very cool indeed! It represents
the new wave of players in the mist, which are soon to come to the forefront.

Supercharger kits are typically NOT AT ALL interchangeable from one vehicle
to another, so the answer is DON'T EVEN THINK ABOUT IT ! Thanks. KT

Thank you for the interest and support. Look for such a kit in the
future.

So there is a possibility for a supercharger kit comming our way but in a way we have to make it happen.
As was suggested earlier we as owners and consumers need to contact them and let them know it would be viable for them to make this product for the protege.

Thanks,
Brad
