motortrend tests the 09 wrx...

Yes, clearly we live in a world where we should stop trying to find a happy middle ground between mutually exclusive wants like performance and fuel economy. The only options are 12 mpg and a Prius, this is a black and white subject where there are no shades of gray. Screw wanting to have fun at a reasonable fuel cost, and to hell with compromise.

What are you, twelve?

no, he's just not someone thats willing to give up whats important to him in a car (power) for gas mileage. Not all people are looking for the same thing in a car....there are plenty of people out there that dont care about gas mileage...

There's nothing wrong with that as its his own perogative.

canadians....

lol.

ive never had a car that had good gas mileage, i care more about going fast and that requires:
1.money for gas
2.money for all the parts that will break

thats what i live with and thats what i enjoy.

what are you 80?

Dumb and or rich people

Dumb and or rich people

thats completely ignorant.

i make good money, but everything i do comes at a cost and I budget what I can/can not afford. I love my high performance cars, I've been racing for years and building cars since I was an early teen. When doing a build the last thing on my mind was gas mileage. If i am building a 500hp car do you honestly believe that you are going to get 20+ mpg. People get into cars for various reasons. I got into them for the power that can be acheived and for the shear fun of it. If you got into them for the mpg than you are def. in the wrong place bud.

Go hug and tree with your peta friends. ...Nobama...

you are buying a high performance sport compact...you do not buy the for the mpg.
Then perhaps he should phrase his response to someone who wants some measure of fuel economy without an imperative. You know, not telling them what is important to them when purchasing performance compacts. Maybe.

Im sorry but if you're buying a performance anything, MPG is not the first thing you're looking at when buying the car, so he has a point either way.

Oh, I'm sorry, I wasn't aware that when people want to buy a vehicle, performance or otherwise, their first priority is decided by you. Or that secondary considerations don't matter.

My bad.

hey, if you can make a wild assumption, then why the hell cant I? (potkettle

and by the way, just so that I can help you comprehend since you're having difficulty...I didnt say mpg WASNT a factor, I said that it definitely isnt the first thing I'm sure most of you looked at...

Who is making wild assumptions here? Do you need to re-read this little thread here to figure out just where the assumptions were made, or do I have to spell it out for you? I will give you a hint before you go off on your little investigative journey trying to find the assumptions: they did not come from me.

The fact of the matter is that people evaluate the vehicles they want to buy for a number of different reasons, and you would be incredibly narrow minded (and stupid) to suggest that your priorities are somehow more relevant or better than someone else's.

You can read this little MS3 forum and find out that people have bought the MS3 because it's fast and gets good fuel economy, because they have a family and find the hatchback design very livable for day to day use with a baby, because they wanted a fast car, because they liked the interior, because they felt the vehicle was a good deal, etc etc etc. Every single person that buys a car has a different story behind why they finally decided on the one they now own. For some of those people, fuel economy is a driving force, even if they are looking for a car that can do a 14 second 1/4 mile. You guys need to stop being mental by suggesting that just because the car is fast the ammount you spend on fuel doesn't matter. That is such a simple-minded perspective, and I find in monumentally juvenile to have to read some lukewarm pudding-for-brains suggest that performance is the only metric that matters. You'd all be driving Cobalt SS Turbocharged or 2004 SRT-4s if that was the case.

You sure might not be suggesting that performance is the only metric that matters, but that other guy certainly was, which is why I called him on it. This is all easily picked up with a basic grade 6 level of reading comprehension, guy.

My panties are in a bunch because I think one guy telling another guy that the things he wants in a car don't matter is kind of stupid? I feel like I've fallen down the rabbit hole here, Jesus.

Well the thing is, his comment was correct. When you bought your MS3 it was for performance over MPG because if MPG was more important then you would have bought a regular 3. No one said you cant have your cake and eat it too, which is what you've done with the MS3, but if you read what he originally said then you'll see plainly that this is what he most likely meant...
