I'm going to be changing my thermostat soon as a precautionary measure....
I went to autozone to see how much an oem thermostat would be and then they said they had these fail safe thermostats made by motorad... Instaed of failing closed supposedly they fail open so your car doesnt over heat.... anyone heard of these.....??? any opinions...??

I haven't, but it would work once. When you start your car again it will take along time to get the water temp back up to normal.

From what I've read/heard aftermarket t-stats are not worth it. I'd just buy an oem from onlinemazdaparts and call it a day.

buy oem....

I bought one of those fail safes and when I had everything apart I just didnt like it. I tested the stock thermostat and it still worked so I kept it lol

FYI, I believe the stock thrmostats will stay open if they fail also.

I don't believe the stock will stay open when it fails. When mine failed, it stayed shut and caused the car to almost overheat.

When mine failed I bought one from autozone I believe and it's been running strong for the last 3 and a half years. Can't tell you what kind it is.

you know the OEM mazda replacement one is made by motorad right?
the original factory one is made by NTCL and mazda doesn't bring them over :(

^^ i did not know this... what is your feeling about getting the fail safe..??? if you think i should just get the oem one i will... whatever you say goes cause you are.. the man
