mazda protege5 2003
so last week my motor blew and i have tossing around the idea of using the rear diff from a sport 20 to make a RWD 13bt powered protege, does anyone happen to know if the diff can handle the power of a built 13bt? if not does anyone happen to know where i can get a good stock motor for cheap cause driving my suburban full time is starting to suck.

From my understanding the sport 20 is frontwheel drive if I'm wrong don't be afraid to rub it in :) but if your considering converting ANY fwd car to rwd you've got a lot more problems than the diff. And far more money than the car is worth. I would say find an rx7 with a bad motor there's plenty of them I have one. Or find a blownup 240 sx there's more of them and far more parts and aftermarket stuff than you'd know what to do with my .02

it has been a few years sense i have read about the sport 20 but as far as i remember it had the same drive train as the speed 6 and i am not to concerned with the time and trouble it is going to be with making the switch from fwd to rwd i have just finished a 4 year project redoing my FC.

I looked it up it is fwd the only awd was in the early 90s I believe. But if ur wantin to do a big swap why not throw a 4g63 in it? Its be easier tougher cheaper and last a lot longer than a 13b. You could get more power out of it too. I'm just saying it just wouldn't be worth it in the end your also gona have to cut into the firewall get the drive shaft lined up and I'm not even gona get started on the work you'd have to do to the rear end. Not to mention make your own motor mounts. Plus I'm not sure if the 13b would even fit. If you prove me wrong and actually do it ur gona have a true weekend car as in drive it on the weekend break somethin and have to make/ wait on the part tht breaks

i have a few 13b motors laying around the one i am putting in there is bridge ported just needs new seals and making mounts is not a problem either made some for my fc to run an fd motor the hard part is going to be keeping the car looking stock i started striping it out sunday and will be posting factory parts FS soon and a build thread. the funny thing thou was while i was pulling the intake a guy from up the street asked me if it was the madza they put the rotary in...going to be. breaking things is the fun of it i have had my fc 13yrs and she was broke most of the time and now that she is "restored" i need something else to beat the hell out of...i really dont know how to work on piston driven engines to many things to go wrong.

Well good news for you aparently they made an awd p5 from what I've read don't hold me to it. But if that's the case then you could rig up a ford 9 in rear end in there with a lot of fabrication work but its one of the strongest there is it'd hold up to the power no prob

This could be you!

In all reality they did make an AWD BJ chassis car, but it wasn't a performance machine like an EVO or STI so I doubt it would be able to handle any real amount of power, not to mention it was never sent to North America so sourcing the parts for a complete RWD setup from overseas would be a pain. But like any build, with the right amount of money one can build anything. That being said, it's not worth the time or trouble IMO. Look on car-part.com and try and source a local engine. Thats probably your best bet.
