motor swap

haha this thread is great. I was actually looking at doing a 4g63 if you look at the evo, the engine is set up just like the protege well except the AWD part haha. I looked at the eclipse version and its not quite the same. My friend has a 4g94 and its pretty close setup as well. I just have and issue with this car having a max power so far in the 300 range, I just would like some more capabilities than the FSDE.

Buy another car... like one with a 4g63.

You guys talk as if 300hp is not a lot of power for a FWD car... and transplanting engines you be better saved for project cars. I know several 300 plus hp cars and with out being setup for the track high 13s is all they attain.

dont bash on somebody that just has an idea.its kinda rude, dont you think.if i do the swap, then what says i couldnt swap back??besides,if it can be done then why would i even want to swap it back?I am gonna do some research and try it!if it dont work then oh well.at least i tried what others like you wouldnt, and didnt bash in the process.

hah yea its totally reversible (lol)

10 bucks says you dont do it. Think, steering rack, A/C, ECU, Harness, etc...

You might as well buy a beater Nissan or if your Protege is going to be project only your gonna have to strip it and all that. I suppose if get rid of everything besides what runs the car it would make it a lil more doable.

well the thing is, I love my car and I personally would be more happy with it if i has more power. I don't want to drive a car that everyone has on the road. I mean in my state I know all but one guy that has my car. I mean tell me a car that you can own in this price range that you can say the same for. You can't. I mean I'm not planning on getting rid of this car for that reason. Everyone seems to b**** out and be like oh well i'll get a SRT-4 but why? Just cuz of the nicer motor right? I say that if people want to swap their engines then let them do it. It's also not only a quest for more power, but having a project, being origional, and having fun. I'm not saying that swaping a 383 makes sense but you gotta admit that would be badass none the less, lol.

Not really bashing bud, the comment just shows that you dont really know what your getting yourself into.

Not that i wouldnt like to try its more that its not cost effective to take a fairly new car and basicly turn it into a track *****. If thats what you want to do great... but i think its more of a wet dream. Kudos to you.\

Edit: Dont make the mistake of thinking everyone has done this swap or that swap... its more that everyone has talked about.

I assume you have an MSP if you like not haivng that same car as everyone then drive it. Upgrade it to get the HP you want but i dont think you understand how fast 250whp is and with the money you would spend swaping you could easily attain that.

If you want a small black there are a TON of cars that would take it and you could still be very original.

and he's from arizona!(thumb) I think that if this swap does work then it wont be a "track *****", but a daily driven beast that can go to the track.just think, the handleing of a protege, and the power of an sr20, sound great to me! I will have about $5000 to start on this project and i will also have the whole front half of the NISSAN BLUEBIRD. so those two put together might be enough but if not then i will get more cash as the time comes.

PS: I DO know what i am getting myself into. I know that the shafts and the hubs probly wont line up right.the wire harness wont fit the protege gauges.the motor mounts from either car will work, ect, ect. but it will be done!!!

I know your not bashing but hey you may be halfway right. I mean a lot of people talk about doing this stuff but it never gets done. But you have to take into consideration 10 years ago, swapping a V8 into an S10 was a pipe dream. Now they are everywhere. Then theres the V8 focus swap. s*** if they can do that we can do anything! Theres all kinds of s*** like that too like the viper motor in the Wrangler and stuff like that. All it takes is time and money and a whole s*** load of know how. But theres people out there man.

Exactly a 10 year old car is a lot different... odds its not your only car and you dont need certain things in it.

The Focus was a ford and several other sponsored thing to create kits for the car and even then its $$$ and guess what the car they are put in are also converted into the right platform to harness the power. 300hp in the Msp no matter what engine is going to run you into the same problems. Same problems the High HP bluebird guys run into.

well, thanks for all the opinions and i will post as much info as i can as it comes.
