Motor mount questions

Guys, I have posted here about some rubbing\rattling issues I am having with my Racing Beat exhaust system. I have got it basically pinpointed down to when I shift into reverse. It's not everytime I shift into reverse but it was doing it horrible this morning. I got out and popped the hood and had my carpool buddy jump in the drivers seat and shift it from Park to Reverse to Drive and back and forth and what not. When it is shifted into reverse the motor rolls forward bigtime and I get the rubbing/rattling. I am thinking I should get some motor mounts, should I just do the front cuz I am hearing that the rear is a pain in the ass. Is it just a pain in the ass unless you have a lift or is there just a ton of s*** in the way ? I have access to a lift and all the tools I need really. Deep down my thought is that I should probably do both cause I am fearing that if I only do the front then I am just going to transfer the stress to the rear one even worse. Any thoughts ? Just bite the bullet and do both ? I know about the AWR stuff, but I was also looking at the billet Street Unit ones. Anybody have any experience with the SU ones ?

You may want to remove the front one and have a look at it, it might be torn. It's easy to do and easy to replace.

I removed my AWR's, made idling in traffic feel like a Harley. Personal preference though.

And yes, that rear one is a pain. You have to remove the 3 bolts holding it to the chassis by using a few extensions from above the engine. Have to move a wiring harness just to get to them. Then to remove the bolt that goes through it you have to use even more extensions to get all the way out the passenger side wheel-well.

I put the AWR (70) in the front and it took care of my engine rocking. For abut 20,000 km. Now I can feel that it's back, presumably because the rear is shot. In the next couple of weeks i'm going to have my RR-Racing motor mount inserts installed. Apparently this is a much easier solution because you don't have to take the mount out. I'll let you now how the vibrations are.

ya i was also wondering which to get also cuz all four of my mounts are torn. ive heard the AWR's make the car vibrate like a b*tch but i haven't heard anything about the Street Unit ones, i beleive the SU are a softer durometer, but wud this make them perform less?

Street Unit = 68 durometer
AWR softest = 70 durometer..

I don't think it would make much difference either way...According to some people installing the side inserts helps reduce the cabin vibration with the AWR front and rear...

Street Unit is 62 durometer.

Somebody on the forum said the bushings were also larger to reduce vibration. I have no idea if that is true or not though.

my engine was hoppin a lil after the new motor was dropped in. it actually stalled me out cuz it rolled back too far in drive cuz the engine hopped and the tranny didnt engage. but it went away after a few hours of drivin and startin and stoppin the engine

so it seems the softer the durometer the less vibration. but wut about performance wise? are the stiffer ones noticably better or wud it be just as good to go softer w/less vibration?

it is a trade off from a performance stand point; a softer mount will make cabin vibration easier to deal with but a stiffer mount gives you snappier throttle response, less engine flexing and more cabin vibration. from a strict performance standpoint, a stiffer mount is better. from a comfort stand point a softer mount is better. if it were not this way, manufacturers would give us stiffer mounts from the assembly line.

AWR makes thiers in 70, 88 and 95. me personally, i have 95 all the way around and love it. some don't. i think the 88s i sell the most of as they provide the best compromise.

so the durometer on the SU is 62 so for moderately modded cars this would be a large improvement over the stock motor mounts and would not sacrifice ride quality. Has anyone done a write-up on installing the motor mounts?

there are good writeups in the how-to section of these forums. front and sides are pretty straightforward, the rear is the one that is the hardest and takes the longest.
