Ya i actually ended up getting a deal. My mechanic charged me for 350 for install plus a timing belt. I ended up buying a water pump and gasket from mazda. The mazda pump was 95 and aftermarket was 85 so i thought i may as well fork out the extra 10-15 for a real oem pump that wont s*** the bed.Average markup on parts in an independent shop yields a 58% gross profit margin on parts. Thats about a 2.35 multiplier for mark up. $40.00 x 2.35 = $92.00 for the pump. R&R time on the pump is 3.0 hours. At my shop, our labor rate is $94.89, so that would equal $284.67 in labor. Now factor in coolant somewhere in the $15-30 range. Add those up and you're right at $400.00
