Moroso Oilpan

i talked to them last week..they said it was a little while off before it would be ready for MSP's and such..they didn't seem to be really rushing development at all..

If anyone has their email post it up and we'll see if we can't get them to hurry up a bit.

mike if you're going to make your own baffles, do up a how to and include a template etc - that'll be really really cool!

i agree, i need a temporary protection measure for this until Moroso gets their s*** done.

Yeah seriously make your own baffles... if it works then getting a junk oil pan and modifying it wont be hard... Although here is some food for though why is it the pressure drops on hard left turns and not right turns? Obviously it is the structure...but what exactly....knowing this may help....maybe there are baffles on the left side and not right?

I'm gonna assume the pickup is probably on the left side, so when you take a hard left, the oil sloshes over to the right and leaves the pickup dry. I can't remember how offset the sump is on the pan right now either. I need to go get a J/Y motor and mess with it, but right now I don't have the money (or space) do get one. This car gets 100-140 miles a day, and is my only car so I can't have it apart for long.

mike, if your assumption is correct, that would make a lot of sense since my motor came out of the closet ghey while i was turning real hard to the left.

The oil pan is pretty symetrical and the pickup is in the middle. I think the left turn, right turn conspiracy is just coincedence right now as I believe I was making a hard right. I have the oil pan off right now and there is a horizontal plate pinch welded in side the pan. It sort of makes a shelf around the oil pickup. I'm not very well read on fluid dynamics and physics, but I think a series of vertical seperaters would work better than the horizontal plate. The only problem is that if I screw it up I get to rebuild another motor. Once I get my motor back together and get the oil pressure gauge up and working I might experiment with the pan, but that won't be anytime soon and I would hope that Moroso will have a fix by then.

If u do very low set of vertical fins it would help. they dont even have to be as high as the horizontal fin but they will prevent massive oil shifts. cant somebody buy a used oil pan and experiment... as long as there is no intereference with anything mechanical and the pump then u are straight.

I'll try and get a picture of the inside of the stock pan so we can converse about it. I think it would be best to get rid of the horizontal plate all together, but we'll save that arguement until we all get a good look at it.

the horizontal plate my transfer the wave better...but if u had a crosshatched pattern it would work well and avoid any complicated removals. i would love to see pics though. btw, not to threadjack but where and how much for the silver windshield banner?

Just go to a sign shop and have them cut you out enough silver vinyl to cover what you want. then take it to a tint shop and they will put it on and cut it to shape. Mine cost about $75

Also get a pic of the bottom of the engine and pickup. (please) I would think that a couple 1.5-2"" tall vertical baffles would do alot. They would need to have some holes or be mounted a bit off the bottom of the pan. I'd like a larger (wider) sump Like a big rectangle for the pan instead of the droop in the center. That would get like 1-2qts more oil capacity. If I can get to a j/y I'll try and pull a pan or get a whole engine.

I think I found an oil pan from another manufacturer! I'll try to get more info or even have him post here. Stay tuned...

I have the Moroso pan on my Talon. I have mixed opinions on it. I really like it, as it has 2 trap doors, 1 for heavy breaking, the other for turning. I also like that it holds 6 instead of 4 quarts, and the tray is great for keeping excess oil off the crank. What I don't like is trying to get the damn oil return line to seal on it. They made a crappy design of having loosely fitted studs sticking out of the pan. These make 2 leak spots that I just have not been able to get to seal. Fortunately, my pan wasn't warped, but they say a flatness of 1/4" can happen due to the pan cooling off from the welding and being pulled off the jig. To counter this, you're supposed to retighten all of the bolts a half hour after running the car or so. My pan was supposed to come with studs, nuts, and instructions, none of those were included. I'm just giving a heads up that when you guys get it, don't be suprised if you have to try mounting it 3-4 times. The last time I was able to get it to seal fairly well, I had to apply a very thick coat of rtv, let it set, lightly bolt the pan in place, let it set a couple hours, then torque it down (in the x-pattern that you'll need to do). I believe some of the Honda pans use different oil pick ups as well (which come included with those).

Hmm... I was thinking about seeing if we could even get something as simple as custom baffling done for a stock pan, but the extra capacity of a full pan would be worth it. I was thinking of doing it through Armando's Racing Oil Pans, as my brother in law has one on his old Chevy Caprice, and he likes it a lot. I also like the look of his work, and the welds seem great, from what I've seen of it.
