Mods How does everyone afford them!

Yep. Keep your wish list simple and buy only what you can afford. Consider yourself lucky if you are blessed with giving parents or an above average salary.

also my car was paid for the day we took it off the lot of the dealership. No financing, just cash.

lol hey man, take what you can get.

My parents would have bought me a 28K dollar altima full loaded hids etc if i wanted to, but i went with the cheaper msp anyways.

I am very fortunate to have parents who bought me a car cash, pay for out of state tuition 30K a year and who give me a weekly allowance.

Spoiled? probably, but i am not proud of it. I have always grown up that way. If it makes anyone feel better, i have paid for my mods with my own money. When my engine blew i had to take out a 3K dollar loan at the bank so i am still paying that back, but thats it.

I consider myseld very lucky and am not ungrateful in any way shape or form.

1) Only eating 2 meals a day
2) Pimping out the GF on weekends
3) ...

JOKE...

For some..its a choice of how to spend "disposable" income...for others its personal sacrifice on other things...

....some are lucky enough to have sponsorship (most of my items are...but not without personal investing a good portion of the car first).

probably, but the car was a gift from my parents for doing well in high school. Now i go to the University of Michigan and i am prelaw. I will be in law school next year so i think my parents realize that i will be fine on my own after law school.

sorry i hate to sound like a gaydar, and you seem pretty cool, just the idea of free cars irritates me. its nothing personal and i feel like a dick for saying that now. but on the other hand you did complain of being addicted to modding and also not keeping up with your school studies. I think maybe you wouldnt be so addicted if you didnt have too much extra money? i dont know, its just me. im addicted to designing things and alot of my money goes to prototyping stupid s*** and playing with stuff so im no saint.

I bought the car new, paid for all the mods myself. I've got a decent job and so does the wife, so even with all the bills, and 2 kids, I can afford most of the stuff I want. I also buy stuff used or on Group buys and don't spend money on anything else, ie, CD's, alcohol, drugs, etc...

oh...one more thing.

PLANNING YOUR PURCHASES....and BUYING THE RIGHT MODS IN THE FIRST PLACE

some people on this board buy "crap" and end up replacing it in the end...and in the end its more expensive...

Save money and buy the right mods ....make a plan.... stick to it... don't just buy "things" because you want to mod the car.

I saved a bunch of money on my car insurance by switch to Geico. Thats how I can afford all my mods (lol2)

I second that, I made sure to see waht everone on the boards' experience was and then bought the stuff.

yeah i know what you mean. when one person has to work hard to get what they have versus a person who just gets something for free. It would bother me too.

SOme students have to take big loans for school and they feel the same way about my situation (i dont pay anything, just go to class).

It will hurt me in the long run though. I will never know the value of money as you or other do. That is a valuabl;e lesson and I think i have yet to gauin that.

I am finished with this car after the thumper kit. As long as everything is running good and reliable, then i am happy. I will make magazines (pretty sure) and then my goal will be acclomplished.

hahaha, i did and I modded that bish too. You would laugh if you saw it...

some people get a lucky break and their parents buy them a car.
If my parents offered me an MSP for my bday, i'd take it in a heartbeat!! all the more money I can spend on modding the car :)

You can't slam people for accepting a gift from their parents, cuz you would if your parents offered it to you. (who the hell doesn't accept a sweet gift?) You can be jealous, I'm jealous of those people - but I'll have the pride of having bought my own car when I'm done paying her off. It's a trade off, pride or $15,000 saved

i say to each his own. i work in for a home theater installation company. i make 12 bones an hour plus a little over time. i work 40 hours a week most of the time. i get a HUGE discount of some incredibly home theater equipment and i would love to purchase some of it but i would rather spend money on my car. there are several guys here that would like to spend money on their cars but rather find it more valued in electronics. everyone buys what they want. i have 2 credit cards with about 2g's in debt, but i'm never late on the payments. so even tho it's on a CC i still say i can afford it. now i'm not gonna go out and get another cc just to buy parts, thats stupid. i pay for my car(always have since purchasing a new vehicle, had some old used ones that the rents paid for), i pay rent, grocerys, electricity, water, cellphone....i don't see anything wrong with someone being given a car. if the family can afford it and has gone forever living that way then more power to them. ppl want bill gates to give away lots of his money cuz he has sooooo much but i say **** that. he earned all the money fair and square and went thru some tough s*** to get to where he is today so i say **** those people. whatever, i feel like this is going nowhere but there is a fuckload of money out there. all you have to do is go out and put your name on some.

man. i was in debt before I bought my car :P
I'm slowly paying that off.. but no rush.. super-low interest = happy loan! :)

I make enough money, and I live with my GF... but I only recently set aside like cdn$4000 a year for mods.. just so happens that cdn$2000 just fell onto my lap, so i bought a turbo kit and will buy an eliptical machine :)

Good point, I cant even say how much money I've wasted on crap, and things that didnt work, and just plain changing my mind. If I would have known back then what I know now, I could have saved alot of time and money.

For me, I pay for my car, gas, all that stuff. I do live at home though until I'm done with college, or at least get a decent job.

ALso make sure yur going to keep yur car...I boguht an $800 hood for my P5, but now I decided I dont want/need it for my MSP...
