Mods How does everyone afford them!

(werd)
I just finished my new FMIC made from coke cans and aluminum foil. My new custom toilet paper roll exhaust is coming along quite nicely. I also routed some vacuum hose into the cabin, and hooked a ballon to it for a cheap and practical boost guage.
(evil)
Actually, here is another stupid idea I was seriously thinking about. Ghetto IC sprayer made from upside down air duster cans. When they are used upside down they spray liquid that is very cold. It should have performance somewhere between a water sprayer and CO2.

I pay for everything with my own money. the car, rent, insurance, a couple small CC bills, phone, utilities, gym, food... etc.. it all REALLY adds up. my out of pocket expenses are roughly $1600-$1800 a month.
All my mods I have paid for myself, though sponsorships really help, but dont let that fool you, there is still a TON of money spent even with their help.

Take the thumper kit for instance, Beau is the best, and he has sponsored me for it, and other random parts, but I'm still spending a small FORTUNE on my car for all the supporting mods I want/need to make some real HP with it.

i have no debt. my parents bought me my car however.
i'm in the same boat.

i'm taking advantage of my situation - i have very few things to worry about financially, so (at this point in time) i can invest in my car.

i pay for everything and never let anyting on my credit card carry over to the next month. i feel my mod list is fairly conservative though, for owning the car for almost two years. for the longest time all i had was CAI and turbo timer. then i got the hood at a pretty good deal (imho). and now i just got rotors/pads and SS lines to install...but ive had the lines waiting for 2 months...so...

no 1300 FMIC here....
That's how I do it too. Not going to carry stuff on the CC. If I can't afford to buy something comfortably, I'll wait. My car is a car, it'll run without the mods, but I must eat. :D

peepsalot- are you poking fun or just jealous?
I'm just trying to be funny. I think it is awesome that some people can do so many mods themselves, but not everyone has the same access to tools, materials, shop to work in, and most importantly the know-how. To those that do: more power to you. I'm always working on that last one, and I definitely try to do as much on my own as possible before going to pay someone else to do it. (Haven't paid anyone to work on my car yet ;))
I'm not saying that doing mods yourself is the ghetto way of doing things; on the contrary, I don't see how someone can take pride in a car that someone else did all the work on. I wish I had the knowledge and resources available to me to do as much as you have done to your car. You should be very proud of that, as I'm sure you are. I'm just saying: "Do the mods yourself" is much easier said than done.

Also as stupid as it may sound, the dust can idea was something I was seriously thinking about at one point.

the best way to learn peepsalot, go watch people at random shops, or even if you have friends who work on cars etc...thats how i have learned what i know so far...even sometimes reading helps but i believe actually hands on is what helps the most..

you didnt have to go into such detail, lol. Its all good. I was actually considering putting in my sig. my greatest sponsers:

Special thanks to Home Depot, Lowes, and Albany Steel......without your s***, my car would'nt be runnin 13.4's

And yes I have seen several people using the spray c02 cleaner.

ive seen people using the duster before, i actually hooked up some fish tank line in my buddies lifted f350 and put the line coming out his hood, so when we turned the duster can upside down and sprayed it through the line inside the truck, it looked like he was purging! edit: went through 3 bottles of duster in 1 night we were spraying it so much haha.

seriously.. i've learned almost everything i know from Macklum, Brian_MP5T and Maximum Boost (the book) - and the forums

If I end up doing the tranny swap, it would cost me $2000+ in labor to get it done, versus doing it myself for...$0 :) that $2000 can have a much nicer home in other gadgetry

some people just eat in instead of dining out. Saving a couple of dollars by not buying lunch can save a lot. If you can get by, then don't buy any clothes for a couple of months should net you some more moneys. Next to scrap more money is to go out less often. Maybe one less movie or club. Just some idea.

Hehe, Yeah, I wasn't wasn't sure if I was coming off as an asshole, had to defend my repuatation there. I joke around alot, so I recommend not taking most of my s*** seriously.

And that sucks that other people are using the dusters, I thought I had an original idea for once. :D

Now i go to the University of Michigan and i am prelaw. I will be in law school next year so i think my parents realize that i will be fine on my own after law school.
What exactly is "pre-law?" My wife is finishing her last year of Law School and I don't know any of her peers that were "pre-law." They were all business, poly-sci, history and the like.

Find something you can do in your "free" time, you know, that time between 2a.m. and 7a.m. when you get up for work, and use it to make some extra money. You should already be able to live on your steady income, so this money you make in your free time can go right into the car.

Now I wish I could think of something do sell...

pre law is taking a curriculum geared towards achieving in Law school i.e, philosophy of Law classes, writing in Law etc etc.

I my self an a declared Biopsychology major, but my classes are geared towards law school.

while i was in college i worked 30 hours a week, and lived rent free (my parents owned a house in cincinnati and rented it to my roomates, but let me live for free)

then i started co-oping, makin $12/hour and a 40 hour week. during this time i lived at home. this is where most of my mods come in.

plus i usually either buy used, set up/join a group buy, or just shop around like a madman. the only thing i paid full price for was my header.

thats the other thing, i always try to sell other crap before buying more. thats a trick i learned from my wife....either do an extra networking job, or fix someones computer or something, then thats disposible income. money that you werent counting on.

Here is a calculator to determine how much you can save by " brown bagging " your lunch
