Mods How does everyone afford them!

:
No Car
trying to understand how everyone can afford to mod their cars.. i work 2 jobs and can barely afford all my stuff.. trying to see if anyone has a way of saving that i havent thought about.. dont flame.. but probably will happen.(nuts)

Dude I'm with you. Some people on here are crazy. I slap my head when I hear "Oh I just got my 1300 FMIC and a full 3in SS exhaust." Jesus H Christ. Some people have a money tree growing out back.

you have all kinda of people on this board. People who paid cash for their beat up 1st gen, just as and A-B car...people who scrape together the funds every month to make the payment on their MSP or new MZ3, then you have a few who couild have bought an STi or 350Z but chose a cheaper car and mod it to the hilt...Of course there are other lucky people who had their car paid for and then got some insurance money, borrowed, sponsored, etc to go crazy on mods(I wont mention names)...

I have a feeling many ppl are living in HUGE debt.

Everything I have purchased has never been at full price, and I'll usually hold off and look for a great deal on something I'm looking for.

Well, I spent four years in college buying nothing so I can now afford some mods. Small temporary sacrifices with big payoffs.

I haven't had anything to play with for the last few years though, even had to sell my other cars to make it through school.

Britt

BTW I don't have a $1300 FMIC!

Sometimes I hit my head when I see a thread how someone got rid of their sweet MSP wheels and go spend 2k+ on new wheels and tires. I mean our wheels ROCK! ....it just seems like a waste of money. If I had 30k+ to spend on a car I sure as hell would not have bought a Mazda.

Was this directed towards me? If so, realize that the MSP wheels are 24lbs each. My wheels are 16 lbs each. Reducing unsprung weight is one of the single most important handling mods you can make. My wheels were under $800.

But I don't think blue headlights are a wise way to spend money either! Or spend $200 on a Spool intake that can be made for less than $50 plus the filter. I dunno, to each his own I guess.

lotta people are students who still live under their parents roof. they don't pay for the monthly payments, insurance, hell even gas. they don't have to worry bout bills to pay so whatever they earn from working after school can be dumped into the car.

lots of people in different situations, and lots of people owe their credit cards lots. if i want i can go buy $11,000 worth of mods on my cc's, but guess what, my car is stock because it's not worth it to me. any mod i do i would pay cash for, and school says i can't do that for another year or so

wish my parents paid for something...

i pay for everything and never let anyting on my credit card carry over to the next month. i feel my mod list is fairly conservative though, for owning the car for almost two years. for the longest time all i had was CAI and turbo timer. then i got the hood at a pretty good deal (imho). and now i just got rotors/pads and SS lines to install...but ive had the lines waiting for 2 months...so...

no 1300 FMIC here....

Well I actually wasn't directing it tword you.....just anyone. Reducing the weight is a good idea.....if you race or whatever.

The GE bulb upgrade I did was from WalMart, 16 bucks for a pair. The Spool CAI I bought was used, 90 bucks shipped.

i have no debt. my parents bought me my car however.
dont you think you should be paying for your car instead of blowing blocks and playing with turbos?

Hmm..I work full time. But I am carrying some debt w/ my CC right now. I try to look for used stuff, and try to get someone's help on installs. That saves some cash. I still live w/ my parents and I put away money that I never touch. Taht's almost like rent. If I didnt' do that..maybe I'd have no debt on the CC. I pay for cable, internet, cell phone, insurance and my car payments. If I was on my own...I would never afford most of the costly mods i've done like the cf hood, wheels and the cams. My salary just isnt large enough to support the living standards in this city. Well barely anyways.

the easy way would be to save money and purchase mods, as you save enough money say $200.00 go buy 200.00 worth of mods, after a year or so of doing this, you'll have all this s*** in your garage then you'll have to save more to have it installed...call this buy as you save method.but in order to save there is gonna be sacrafice. you might have to give up something inorder to save. 1 year is not bad for saving and buying, just imagine the finished product. you have a perfectly modded and tuned car that runs 13's. what else could you ask for.i know, i know a car that runs 12's. and don't forget tp bargain shop, product and price may be good, but someone always has the same product even cheaper. well anyway thats how i did it and now i only lack 2 mods, which i will get at the 1st of the month.

if you learn to install things yourself you can save a ton of money you can use on towards mods. at the same time you can mess up really bad and have to spend more money fixing a new problem. so pick and choose carefully what you plan on installing. however, if you know how to follow directions, just about any bolt mod can be done by yourself w/ the help of some friends. great thing about this forum is people posted "How to" on most bolt on mods w/ great pics or will help you troubleshoot if you run across a problem.

probably, but the car was a gift from my parents for doing well in high school. Now i go to the University of Michigan and i am prelaw. I will be in law school next year so i think my parents realize that i will be fine on my own after law school.
