Ok, just wanted to see if there is more geeks on this site. I recentedly painted my xbox and wanted to show it off. I came up with the design myself and decided to actually do it. I think it looks great and I always get compliments on it. It's supposed to look like snake skin and the pics don't give it justice. I did all the work myself even the LED's.

I modded my friends v1.0 box. That was fun, but really long and drawn out. Put an 80GB HD in that bad boy. Its so much better not having to use disks everytime you want to change games. Also did the 12v fan mod, and the upgraded thermal paste mod. Awesome little box now.

BTW I'm geek/nerd to the core. lol

wow pretty cool. What did it look like originally? Do you play it in the dark?

It started as a black factory box like you buy at the store. I put in the solderless Xenium Ice mod chip and since it was modded I decided to paint it. I do play it in the dark but it's so bright when it's directly in front of you that I have to cover it up with a pillow while Im playing.

I wish I did the hard drive, I never got around to it. I'm now saving for 360 instead.

Version 1.1
Xenium Ice solderless
Avalaunch version 0.49.1
XBMC

How do you like the Evolution-X dash? I personally have never seen it, but I really like Avalaunch myself.

Oh yeah I forgot to mentionin my first post that I shaved the numbers and letters off of the front of my xbox too! Give it that custom look!

i had a factory case that i shaved down, but the bottom corner has indented letters, and so when i sanded, it had a weird dip to it. i don't know how to fill in, but that's what i should have done.

i went w/ an XCM case. it's really high quality, and does great things for the LED mods.

dont have it with me right now, but my brother modded it...i think its executor with evo-x dash...also upgraded the hd, but neglected the dvd drive...so it doesnt play burned movies...and for the most part, it looks factory except for a small mod chip control panel on the lower left side and i put a white sticker type skin on it...

I used superglue and sandpaper to fill in the holes and dips. you use the dust from sanding to fill in the holes that you put the superglue into until there is no hole. works very well.

It's okay, i've heard Avalaunch is better and has more features, but I really dont anything extra. EvoX is just simple and easy to use. the auto installer came with many apps and a few emulators. I just wish the dvd-drive worked. It never worked off the bat. I might look into getting one off of ebay or something.

go for a samsung. seem to work with every media type.

yea that's what i heard. i have the crappiest one out of all 3, the thomson. i dont care about media type, i just wanna be able to play dvds or retail xbox games so i can rip them. when i had to install the slayer auto evox installer, i opened up the xbox, disconnected the thomson, soldered an extra power jack into the one that the harddrive uses, and used the cdrom from my computer.

what a pain.

the thompson drives vary greatly - some are factory freaks that can take anything you throw, but most are rather standard, only playing retail games and dvds, and a good amount of burned cd-r/rw (depends on media type).

if all you want is to rip games to the box, then the thopmsons do just fine. i had a gamefly account, so i'd get a game in the mail, rip it to the hdd via dvd2xbox, and then send it back. never had any issues.

you're gonna need 'not a thompson' to play games that were burned to dvd-media to play as backup's.
