Since you hydroplaned already, I would do the tires first. No sense having a short shifter, header, and exhaust, if they end up being scrapped when you end up wrecking after spinning out in California rain. Go get some Yokohama AVS ES 100's. 205/50/16 will fit fine. Then work onthe other stuff. Safety first.
 
I second the yokos as being good in the rain. I dunno how they perform when they are worn, though. I only have about 1k on mine so far.

I am at 20K miles. They are somewhat worn, but as of yet, no problems whatsoever. I will be getting them again when it is time, 10-20K more miles I hope. They handle like new. 33 lbs of pressure, and still no problems. Got mine from tires.com, and will do it again.
