mis shift

nocar

PS!
Potential Scammer!
ok well i was out on the ave racing an integra and we were doin like 80 or so, so im in third and its time to shift to 4th but i accidentally slam it in 2nd while holding the gas during the poweshift.. so i go flyn forward and i see the rpms hit 8k adn i quickly press teh clutch and take it out of gear.. so i pull off th road and my idle is rough as hell.. it seems to arite now,, is there chacne i did some bad damage to my engine... ;\

Ouch... I guess only time will tell. I'm hoping since this was a one time ocurrance, no, but who knows what happened in there :).

there's no excuse for that!!!j/k

in that case your might have over-reved your engine because the rev limiter canot do its job sence its the momentum of the car pushing the revs up. however if you cought it in time it may have not done any damage to the rods or wrist pins. or any of that stuff just take it careful from now on

I don't mean to flame or rant or preach, but.....

1) Why are you "powershifting". That alone is causing me worry about your shifting habits

2) I just boggle at how you can misshift from 3 to 4....just straight pull back. Then again, I have the "row boat" stock MP5 shifter, but still......I can almost understand like 2nd to 5th (missing 3rd) or vice versa....

Does the short shifter cause this much havoc?....still boggled...

I missed one time too.....
5 to 2nd!!!

Lucky i wasn't driving fast...it's was about 80km/h and I tried to down to 4 but i put it on 2nd.....
Lucky it wasn't fast....

Dont mean to flame either but its very unlikely u hit 8grand and its very unlikely u even got it into 2nd. Our syncros wont let the gear engage it will simply grind and say u do get it into gear and ur engine revved up ur rpm's wouldn't surpass the rev limiter which i believe is 7200 rpms and that is fuel cut period. Unless ur ecu is ****** but i guess am calling bs till i hear more.
Peace,
Zane

no its not bs we were hitting about 70 and it was time for me to shift to fourth and i DID put it in second and teh car jerked forward and i saw the rpm at 8

thats caused by unexperienced driving, thats why i learned to drive and shift my car before i ever tried to race it, i can also see inexperience in powershifting, yes the car will go faster but its a very marginal difference that does not outweigh the damage and strees it cause to the drivetrain.

Yello mp3, just because there is a fuel cut doesnt mean that the tach cant read past 7200, the engine is still moving because the tranny is engaged, fuel cut or not 8k isnt unreachable, i've done it once, and it sucks. And as for synchros, i'm sure you've brought first to redline and shifted to second, did u hit a synchro then?

Hmmmm...

I dunno what u mean by hitting a syncro but what syncros do is make sure u have a smooth transition from gear to gear. Rather it be up shifting or down shifting syncros make for a smooth transition. As for going from 3rd to 2nd at 80mph... i don't beleve it if u don't belive me go try to put ur car in 2nd at 80 and see if it doesn't grind the s*** outta ur gear. This does so because the syncro is rejecting the gear and u are trying to put it in and so there is two oppisite forces, there for grinding ur gear. It won't let it in 'till right at 60 mph and even then it doesn't like it. Yes i have taken 1st to redline and shifted hard many many times i have been through two and i gotta get my third new transmission soon so i promise i know about as much as u need to know about our tranny. Its just not possible. And when u have a fuel cut ur engine WILL bounce off the fuel cut untill u change gears or until the gear has been brought back down off such high rpms. So i say no way to both statements.
Peace,
Zane

its possible to mis-shift and get it into gear, powershifting would be harder.. but possible
I just had a friend with an 01 mr2 mis shift 3-2 and spin to about 11k rpms(or so he thinks), his tach reads to 10, and it went well past that. Needless to say his pistons slammed into his valves and did some major damage.
Also, friend with a teg did a 5-2 on the highway, and hit about 10k rpms, once again valve damage...,.
i'd take it to a shop, and have them pull the valve cover and check the valves, if not, pull the head and check everything there.

Just be careful!
